Sprint looks to be on a software update spree as of the moment. In fact, right after the wireless provider rolled out an update to the HTC EVO 4G LTE, it is following it up with the release of an update for the Motorola Photon 4G. Many of you will no longer be familiar with the handset but the Motorola Photon 4G was one of the more capable devices in the lineup of Sprint during its heydays.

The Motorola Photon 4G has been around for quite some time now and is no longer a spring chicken for that matter. The handset was announced back in June of last year but only made it to the shelves of Sprint in August. Design-wise, the Motorola Photon 4G is your typical Android handset with a black-slab design with measurements of 126.9 x 66.9 x 12.2 mm and weighs in at 158 grams.

As for the update, it is being rolled out via OTA so Sprint subscribers still rocking a Motorola Photon 4G for their handset of choice should be on the lookout for the notification that will let them know about the availability of the update on their respective handsets. If that notification is not coming up, a user of the handset also has the option to check for the update manually if all else fails.

The said update when applied to the handset brings a lot of goodies and treats to the Motorola Photon 4G for that matter. Among these treats is that it enables a user of the handset to easily import contacts from the SD card of the Motorola Photon 4G. In addition to that, the update will also bring improved music playback to the device. With this, streaming from both Amazon Cloud or from Internet Radio services will become smoother and occasional skips or repeats are reduced significantly. The update will also enhance the Wi-Fi hotspot functionality of the Motorola Photon 4G in GSM / UMTS mode.

Also, the update will enable the handset to support video capture at 1080p HD resolution while at the same time enhancing its video settings for a more responsive playback. Lastly, the update will also enable a user to easily create and accept calendar meetings and notices on the Motorola Photon 4G.

All in all, this most recent update for the Motorola Photon 4G looks to be very important so users of the handset are well advised to have this update applied as soon as they can.

As for the Motorola Photon 4G, the handset relies on its NVIDIA Tegra 2 AP20H chipset under the hood to power its operations. With this SoC, the handset gets a dual-core 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and a full gigabyte of RAM to deliver the computing power that it requires for a flawless performance. The storage space of the handset comes up to 16GB but a microSD card slot in its chassis enables a user to expand the internal storage of the device. Display-wise, the Motorola Photon 4G packs a 4.3-inch TFT panel with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels while its dual-shooter configuration includes a rear 8MP shooter and a front-facing VGA video call camera.
