With the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S III back in the early parts of May, our smartphone-crazed brethren are once again going gaga over the new flagship device of the Korean smartphone manufacturer. This kind of reaction is already expected given the fact that the handset is even more capable than the Samsung Galaxy S II, a handset that was considered as the best smartphone in the Android ecosystem.
The Samsung Galaxy S III was already launched on a global scale last May 29 wherein the handset is expected to hit the shelves of 28 countries. Sad to say, the United States is not included yet in this list and we are still waiting for confirmation as to when the Samsung flagship handset will finally land in our side of the world although we already know that the handset will be released by all major US carriers sooner or later.

Our neighbors north of the border in Canadian territories are luckier though. The Korean smartphone manufacturer has already announced that the Samsung Galaxy S III will be hitting the Canadian shelves come June 20. Not only that, the manufacturer also released the full details of the specs sheet of the handset so we already have an idea as to what components are lurking underneath the hood of the device. And with this access to the details, we were surprised to find quite a few changes to the original version of the Samsung Galaxy S III.
Design and aesthetics-wise, the version of the Samsung Galaxy S III that will land in Canadian shores will share the same DNA with its international sibling. The changes will be found under the hood and as Samsung has confirmed, the Canadian Samsung Galaxy S III will have 2GB of RAM in its internals. In addition to that, the handset will also eschew the Exynos 4212 chipset with its quad-core processor found in the original version of the Samsung Galaxy S III but will instead make use of a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon S4 chipset with a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz similar to the version of the handset that is headed AT&T’s way. Though this version of the device may be seen as a bit underpowered compared to its quad-core version, it is actually the opposite. Despite having only a dual-core processor, it has at least 2GB of RAM to support it in coming up with the computing power needed by the handset for a snappy and buttery-smooth performance.
In terms of storage space, the Canadian Samsung Galaxy S III will be released in a 16GB and 32GB model. While this may be enough for most folks, power users will definitely feel the omission of the 64GB version of the handset. However, users still have the option of beefing up the internal memory of the Samsung Galaxy S III by using its microSD slot so this shouldn’t be an issue at all.
We still have no confirmation if the version of the Samsung Galaxy S III making its way to US shores will also pack 2GB of RAM under the hood but we are hoping that it will. In any case, once we hear more about this, you’ll be the first to know. Buy the Samsung Galaxy S II starting at just one penny.
