Motorola Droid Razr HD: Whenever Google releases a newer version of its Android mobile operating system, it can be expected that smartphone manufacturers will follow suit in taking the stage to make announcements of their own – but this time, the announcement deals with as to when their devices will get cranked up to the recently announced Android version. Usually, manufacturers jostle for position in doing their announcements but some OEMs on the other hand take their sweet time before they actually release details about their update plans.
The Motorola Droid Razr HD is available for a reduced holiday price now starting at $149.99.
Take the case of Motorola for example. When the manufacturer unveiled its trio of new Droid Razr devices a couple of months back, it was expected that the OEM will immediately make known its Jelly Bean plans for the new handsets in its portfolio. After all, it was already acquired by Google and the smartphone-buying public was also expecting the new Motorola handsets to get updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean much quicker.
Sad to say, this is not to happen because Motorola only recently made the announcement regarding its Jelly Bean plans for the handsets in its lineup. With this update, we finally got to see what the manufacturer has in store for its devices and this is where we got the information that Motorola Razr HD, the Canadian version of the Motorola Droid Razr HD, will get cranked up to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with the rollout projected to start by Q1 of next year.
Prior to the announcement, it was widely expected that Motorola will no longer release handsets running yesteryear’s version of Android but the OEM still went on and did it. It promised however that a quick update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was in the offing for the Motorola Droid Razr HD but we never imagined it will take this long. For example, the Motorola Droid Razr HD 4G in US shores only got a taste of Jelly Bean this December after a couple of months of wait while the Motorola Razr HD in Canada is set to follow by next year.
Sad to say, no ETA was mentioned in the announcement so either it could land by January or get help up as late as March. Hopefully, it will be the former so that our Canadian smarphone-crazed brethren north of the border wouldn’t have to wait that long for Jelly Bean to finally land on their devices.
As for the Motorola Razr HD, the handset is powered by its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset which brings into play a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz working in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space on the handset is pegged at 16GB but this is still expandable using the microSD card slot of the Motorola Razr HD. As for its display, the handset comes with a 4.7-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
