The supposed iPhone 5C information that leaked very recently has been confirmed to be true. As much as it hates spoilers, Apple will have to live with the shattered surprise that is the iPhone 5C. Based on the leaks, designer Martin Hajek has rendered a rough approximation of what the iPhone 5C will turn out to be like. These renders included the phone’s case as well, which added much-needed detail to the concept. There have been plenty of other renders as well, all more or less similar.

Based on various information leaks, it is very likely that the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C will have similar designs. However, the iPhone 5C, which will be a low-cost version of the 5S, will include plenty of plastic in its frame so as to cut manufacturing costs. It is also expected to be somewhat heavier and thicker than its aluminium-clad counterpart. From the speculative renders, the iPhone 5C will be weighing 130 g, 18 grams heavier than the iPhone 5. It will also be 8.2mm thick, 0.6 mm thicker than the iPhone 5 (if the renders prove to be correct).

However, there are strong implications that suggest the phone’s hardware and performance will not be compromised upon. The iPhone 5C will also feature an 8 MP camera, like the iPhone 5S. Both the devices will feature a Retina display screen (4 inch). The move to develop a lower-end iPhone has been a long time coming; and Apple will now head out all guns blazing to conquer the mid-level phone markets in many developing countries. With this, Apple will be able to put up a fight against lower-end manufacturers who have already enjoyed quite a head start. Even though the production cost of the iPhone 5C are not expected to be dramatically less than that of the iPhone 5S, Apple will maintain a drastic difference in their prices.

With the iPhone 5C, Apple plans to bank on volume of sales rather than margins, contrary to their usual approach. The iPhone 5C is expected to be priced somewhere around the $350-400 mark, significantly cheaper than the iPhone 5, the prices for which start at $650. According to rumours, the iPhone 5C will be available for purchase from 18th September, the same day as the release of the iPhone 5S. Shipping for the same will commence on 27th September.
