Verizon officially announced today that they would not be getting the new Galaxy S II on their network when it is released. Apparently the number of Android powered phones that is offered by Verizon is the reason they will not be getting the popular Samsung Galaxy S II. The Droid Charge and Droid Bionic are ready to be offered by the wireless company, not to mention the Droid HD might be coming soon as well. This is in addition to the three phones Verizon is already selling, including the Droid 3, Droid X2 and the Droid Incredible 2.
The roadmap that Verizon has pointed out for this month shows another Samsung handset called the “Stratosphere”. In the same roadmap document there is mention of another HTC phone, as well as, another handset from LG Electronics, so it would appear that Verizon has their hands full the way it is with new phones. Not adding a phone to the list of the already jam packed high end phones you offer, shouldn’t make too much difference to Verizon in the end.
Verizon customers shouldn’t have too much to complain about, unless they really just wanted to play around with the popular TouchWiz interface. The Galaxy S II is packed with some nice features though. Some users might just want to get a good look at that huge 4.3 inch AMOLED Plus display. The phone will be available through AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint in the meantime, although they will be offering the phone in their own versions. An event that is coming up Monday is reportedly going to be when the announcements come down from those companies.
Verizon has the most subscribers right now, at least until the AT&T and T-Mobile merger goes through, so in the meantime, they have a lot of customers to keep happy. The news is only a little bad, because like we mentioned before, the number of phones that Verizon offers alone is substantial when compared to other carriers. Another thing that was brought into the news was that Verizon will be in line to pick up the iPhone 5 sometime in October. There isn’t much to say about why that would matter, but maybe Verizon is keeping the shelves open for the iPhone 5 knowing it will sell. Most of the reports online are simply pointing to the fact that the Droid and Galaxy series phones overlap in more ways than one and until the company speaks up to confirm and actual reason, the rumors won’t stop.
