Consumer electronics retailer Best Buy has delivered some of the biggest scoops and verified some of the biggest rumors in the smartphone marketplace the last couple of years simply because of their bungling ways. Whether they physically sell handsets before they are allowed, or “accidentally leak” screen shots with operating system update and device launch dates, they are constantly stirring the rumor-filled pot that is the Internet smartphone blogosphere. Not that that blogosphere needs any help in the rumor department, but in this case the leaked Best Buy notification actually gives us a hard release date for the over the air Motorola Droid Razr MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update.
Both Android and consumer tech websites Android Police and TechnoBuffalo received the same leaked photo showing the Best Buy interoffice memorandum which gave the ICS upgrade for the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX and the Droid Razr as Wednesday, April 4, and the HTC Rezound as Friday, April 6. And while Motorola and Verizon are still tight-lipped and will not verify those dates, several smartphone shoppers on Motorola’s e-mail notification list were recently asked if they would like to try an “… early preview of a new software …” for the Droid Razr or Droid Razr MAXX, lending even more credence to the leaked Best Buy information.
The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX offers a splash-proof, Kevlar and aluminum casing, and is identical in every way to the ultra-skinny Motorola Droid Razr Android smartphone except one. A thicker, 85% larger, 3,300 mAh battery replaces the 1,780 mAh battery found on the Droid Razr. The Droid Razr MAXX may never have existed if it weren’t for the fact that the Motorola Droid Razr didn’t offer the greatest run time. Obviously, a super skinny smartphone usually means cutting back on battery size, which then in turn curtails battery life.
The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX delivers the best out-of-the-box talk time from any 4G smartphone offering, at 21.5 hours from a single charge. That is almost 3 times the eight hour 4G average, and is achieved without making the handset too bulky or oversized. The Motorola Droid Razr MAXX 4G Android smartphone is exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, and also delivers maximum storage out-of-the-box, with 16 GB of built-in storage and a 16 GB microSD card. The handset currently retails for $229 at select Verizon authorized retailers with a standard two-year activation and data plan. Buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx starting at $229.

After running ics on my razr for 3 full days now, i can tell you that it is really cool, but its not quite ready for release yet. i would expect a few more weeks after feedback from the soak test so moto has a chance to fix a few remaining bugs, such as random reboots, some issues occasionally trying to open the camera, sometimes have to push the power button twice to get the screen to wake up, hesitation before you can unlock the homescreen, and a few other small things.
overall, i would never go back at this point, but its not ready for the general public.
