You probably know that the Motorola Droid Razr 4G Android smartphone was designed as the skinniest mobile handset in history. So slim it makes a runway model look fat, the Droid Razr was an incredibly popular smartphone for consumers, and a successful offering on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States. But that lack of bulk tended to offer less than desirable battery performance, so Motorola designers went back to the drawing board. The feature set on the Droid Razr 4G was not a problem, so all those wonderful technical specs and features were kept in place, but battery capacity and size was increased 85%.

The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is on sale now starting at $99.99.

The result is the best battery performance offered by any handset, and the device was appropriately named the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX 4G. Maxing out talk time at 21.5 hours, while alternately providing 15.0 hours of video playback from a single charge of the extended life 3,300 mA battery on board, the handset nearly triples the talk time offered from the standard 4G smartphone. And with 16 GB of data storage built in, the Droid Razr MAXX 4G offered an acceptable level of storage out-of-the-box. However, Motorola also ships the handset with a removable 16 GB microSD card, providing 32 GB total, the most out-of-the-box, user accessible data storage of any 4G smartphone.

The handset is also versatile, functioning as an entry-level laptop, desktop PC or in car GPS turn by turn navigator. By purchasing the optional Lapdock 100 accessory, the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX 4G transforms into a 10.1 inch laptop complete with full keyboard and trackpad. That accessory also adds an impressive 5.0 hours of run time to the already 4G-best battery performance levels.

And purchasing the optional Motorola HD Station gives the handset three microUSB ports and a single HDMI slot, allowing you to hook into a desktop monitor, HDTV, keyboard, mouse and other peripherals. This allows you to create a desktop PC using the Motorola WebTop OS, or create a high definition multimedia hub. You can also combine the handset with the optional in-vehicle GPS mount to access the hands-free feature, and receive turn by turn directions.

The Droid Razr MAXX 4G arrived on January 26 of this year with a splash resistant, Kevlar and aluminum body. The screen runs 4.30 inch and delivers 540 x 960 pixel resolution. A dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor is on board, as is 1.0 GB of RAM system memory. 1,080P HD video recording resolution is offered by the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camera, and a front facing VGA quality chat cam is also present.
