A couple of months ago, we got wind of a nifty, little application for the Nokia Lumia 900 4G called Nokia City Lens. At that time it was still in Beta but apparently is now official and available for download from the MarketPlace. For those who haven’t heard of it yet, Nokia City Lens is an augmented reality application based on location. The app makes use of the camera viewfinder of your Nokia Lumia 900 and gives out an augmented reality overlay view of buildings and highlights places of interest in or near your location.
Nokia City Lens basically gives a user of the Nokia Lumia 900 information as to what shops, museums, restaurants and other places of interest are near your location. It also provides the user information regarding these places such as its distance from you and the rating of the establishment. With this little app in play, you can make use of it in looking at places of interest through augmented reality and get a treasure trove of information without having to search the Web for it.
As for the Nokia Lumia 900, its days of being the flagship device of the Finnish smartphone and tablet manufacturer is already at an end because Nokia has already announced the Nokia Lumia 920 last week. No definite date as of the moment as to when we can expect the handset to hit the shelves but we’re pretty sure that a lot of Windows Phone fanboys are already drooling at the prospect of getting their hands on the Windows Phone 8-packing Lumia 920.
Going back to the Nokia Lumia 900 4G, the device is still pretty capable though even it is already on its way out. Well, this can’t be helped – after all, in the smartphone competition, aging devices give way to the entrance of newer and more powerful devices – which is basically the case here. This is not to say that the Nokia Lumia 900 4G is already useless at this point in time. It still performs like the heavyweight it has been but sad to say, at this point in time, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G is already a “has been” after getting denied of WP8.
Released by AT&T in US shores back in April, on a holiday that fell on a Sunday no less, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G instantly shot up to the top of the smartphone leaderboards of an AT&T authorized reseller. No surprise here given the fact that it is one of the more capable WP devices around at that time with its QualComm APQ8055 SnapDragon chipset with its 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor and 512MB of RAM. The handset has a 16GB internal storage while its display measures 4.3 inches diagonally and is of the AMOLED variety with a 480 x 800 resolution. It also comes with an 8MP shooter at its back panel while its front bezel is home to its 1.3MP video call camera.
