The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the recently released Samsung Galaxy Note has already been confirmed to be postponed until Q2 when Samsung Norway announced the delay on its official Facebook page. This announcement definitely led to a lot of frustrated users of the device but the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer is unleashing a firmware update for the “phablet” to make up for the ICS delay.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note starting at $249.

The said firmware update is now being rolled out via OTA so a notification should pop up once it is already available on your device. This update is still based on Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread but brings to the handset the updated Samsung XXLC1 software and the new version XXLB2 cellular radio to the Samsung Galaxy Note. The whole update weighs approximately 40MB so this update should take up a lot of your time especially if you are downloading the update over a Wi-Fi connection. According to the early adopters of this firmware update, the Samsung Galaxy Note became a whole lot faster and more responsive after the update was applied. A couple of bugs that came along in a previous update were also taken care of, according to reports. In addition to that, this particular update enhanced the Video Editor app of the Samsung Galaxy Note and is now able to handle files with different frame rates better. In addition to that, using the “fade” effect doesn’t produce “artifacts” any longer, thanks to this firmware update.

And since the Ice Cream Sandwich update can now be expected to hit the Samsung Galaxy Note on Q2, this update love from Samsung for the massive device may be in preparation and pave the way for the much awaited ICS update for the handset. We can only cross our fingers that it happens sooner than later but here’s the specs sheet of the Samsung Galaxy Note to keep you company while waiting for that to come out.
