The Samsung Galaxy Note is being referred to as a Phablet (think smartphone and tablet) by many technology bloggers and smartphone industry analysts. And the 4G device does offer both smartphone and tablet functionality. AT&T runs the Samsung Galaxy Note on their 4G LTE network in the US, and that handset was recently lowered to $229 with a standard new two-year activation.

Offered in Ceramic White or Carbon Blue, Samsung recently disclosed that more than 5 million Galaxy Note handsets have been sold globally. Just as impressive is the 2 million units sold in their home country of South Korea, which has a population of 49 million. That number breaks a Samsung sales record for five months of availability on their home turf, and means that more than 4% of South Koreans own the large screen handset.
Samsung has designed the Galaxy Note to recognize your handwriting, and has added other integrated features into their S Pen smart stylus. Working in congress with the 5.30 inch high-resolution touch screen that is the largest offered by any 4G smartphone, the S Pen delivers the ability to write-to-text, write-to-email, create original artwork, take notes in your own handwriting and add personal notes to video and still shots. That large screen and handwriting recognition technology definitely create a tablet feel, but the Galaxy Note is also a 4G LTE capable handset with an admirable feature package.
The Samsung Galaxy Note ships with the Gingerbread operating system, but Samsung recently confirmed that the Galaxy Note would be receiving Android’s version 4.0 operating system Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Delivering high-end screen resolution and pixel density, the Samsung Galaxy Note renders visuals in more than 16 million colors, and that Super AMOLED display is comprised of 285 pixels per inch, for an overall resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels. Talk time runs 10.0 hours on a single charge of the 2,500 mA battery, offering better battery performance than the 8.0 hour 4G average.
The Galaxy Note camera combo includes a 2.0 megapixel chat cam up front, and an 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the back. That rear device records video in 1080P HD resolution, and the front facing chat cam can also place video calls. 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, and 16 GB of built-in, user accessible storage are present. A microUSB slot allows for storage expansion capabilities, and a 1.5 GHz dual core Scorpion central processor joins a graphics dedicated Adreno 220 chip in the hardware package.
