Released on January 9 of this year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4G Android smartphone/tablet hit the 5 million units sold mark in late March. Currently the handset has sold between 7 and 10 million units depending on what estimates you go with, and strong sales support is still in evidence. Launched on the AT&T 4G LTE network, the device is still exclusive to that wireless carrier, and has become a best selling flagship phone for both AT&T and Samsung. Not bad for a device that many respected industry analysts said they believed was “too large.”

But Samsung engineers did an excellent job in keeping the handset as small and light as possible while still delivering the largest display found on any 4G smartphone.  You can purchase the Samsung Galaxy Note starting at $199 at select retailers.

With the large 5.3 inch high resolution display, the Galaxy Note 4G is still manageable enough to hold in one hand and operate with the other. Delivering a new device category, the Galaxy Note is known as a “phablet” consumer-electronics device, obviously meaning part phone and part tablet. The handset delivers unique handwriting recognition technology and a smart stylus S Pen which are both designed to mesh with the multitouch, capacitive screen.

That 5.30 inch Super AMOLED display has a high-end screen resolution of 800 x 1,280 pixels, delivered at 285 pixels per inch. Visuals are represented in over 16 million different colors, and that screen is protected against scratching and chipping by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. Standard light and proximity sensors are on board, and allow for auto brightness adjustment and battery conservation. With 10.0 hours of talk time offered from a single charge of the 2,500 mA battery on board, the Galaxy Note 4G delivers approximately 25% superior talk time over the average 4G smartphone. A Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon microchip suite is on board, which includes a powerful dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion CPU and a separate graphics dedicated Adreno 220 GPU.

The Galaxy Note 4G smartphone has 1.0 GB of RAM memory present as well as 16 GB of built-in storage, and a microSD slot for storage expansion. The 2.0 megapixel chat cam on the front of the handset allows for video call functionality and capturing portrait snapshots. On the back of the handset is a high resolution 8.0 megapixel camcorder which provides video capture at 1,080 P HD resolution. Popular online destinations Picasa, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook have been pre-installed, and the handset delivers wireless Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box for applications like Google Wallet and Android Beam as well.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note starting at $199.
