galaxysiiinewThe Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone has been a best seller in the mobile marketplace. The handset has currently tabulated more than 50 million units sold globally, and even did something at the end of 2012 which no other smartphone has done since the debut of the iPhone. The Samsung Galaxy S III was the first smartphone to outsell an iPhone product while both of those handsets were available from the same wireless carriers. Just last week Samsung received another award thanks to the Galaxy S III, which was named the Best Smartphone at the Mobile World Conference (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain.

The coveted industry award means that the Galaxy S III beat out hundreds of other smartphones at the event, which is the largest mobile Expo in the world every year. Incidentally, the Galaxy S III also grabbed the blue ribbon for Best Smartphone at uSwitch Tech’s 2012 mobile awards, as well as the T3 magazine title of “Phone of the Year” at the end of 2012. The next in the Galaxy S line will be the Galaxy S4, slated to be officially announced on March 14. That handset is almost guaranteed to be a bestseller, and in advance of that much-anticipated launch, many online smartphone outlets have substantially reduced the price tag on their current Galaxy S III stock.

For instance, the Sprint Galaxy S III in the 16 GB version can be had for one penny on contract at the Amazon Wireless store online. That award-winning handset delivers the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system and measures 5.38 x 2.78 x 0.34 inches (136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm) in size. That profile makes it one of the slimmest 4G smartphones available, and at 4.70 ounces (133 g) the GS3 is lighter than most other phones with a large 4.80 inch display.

The Galaxy S III screen is a 4.0 inch Super AMOLED model, protected against normal wear and tear with a layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 2. Resolution runs 720 x 1,280 pixels, delivered at 306 pixels per inch. Talk time on the new 4G LTE system of Sprint in the United States runs approximately 15% better than average, at 9.20 hours delivered after a full battery charge. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip, the dual core CPU running 1.5 GHz.

The handset is also offered in a 32 GB model, and the Galaxy S III comes equipped with a microSD slot for storage expansion. The handset also offers a front facing camera capable of video chats and video calls, and a rear 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear snapper offer simultaneous HD video and image capture, recording video at 1,080P HD resolution.
