There has been much debate about the Android platform and whether most of the devices that run Android are actually doing justice to the original platform that was released by Google. It appears that with the exception of the Galaxy Nexus among smartphones and the Nexus 7 among tablets, there are hardly any devices that run the stock OS. Now, Google seems to be taking the issue more seriously and appears ready to release a new Nexus device, and this one supposedly is going to be heavily influenced by the LG Optimus G. It seems the right time for Google to release a new device as the Galaxy Nexus is already a year old and if the leaked specifications are anything to go by, the new device will be worth the upgrade.

The new device is probably going to be designed around the LG Optimus G and this means it is going to feature a lot of unique features. For starters, the phone will be powered by a much more powerful processor, probably a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 and is going to feature 2GB of RAM. In addition the display is going to be a 720p HD Ready screen with in-plane switching for optimized viewing. Probably the most innovative change yet is the inclusion of integrated wireless charging. Storage options are expected to be 8 GB and 16 GB.

Analysts believe that the Optimus G is one of the most widely anticipated models in the market right now and is from a company that is not surrounded by any apparent legal issues. This will likely be the clinching factor for Google as the Galaxy Nexus was subject to a lot of jurisprudence in the trial between Samsung and Apple. The new Nexus device won’t be a massive upgrade over the current top Android device, the Samsung Galaxy S III, but it is going to get rid of any hardware buttons and feature the newest version of Android (4.2, by most accounts).

Thought the absence of microSD support and the removable battery may be seen as a negative aspect, the overall improvement in hardware and the latest Android built makes this Nexus version a widely anticipated device. However, most analysts believe that one Nexus device a year isn’t enough to popularize the spread of Google’s stock Android experience; it needs to release more such devices and possibly partner with more manufacturers. Though Google seems to be picking a different manufacturers every year (HTC, Samsung and now LG), it may need to explore simultaneous releases on multiple manufacturers to make a better impact.
