The Nexus 5 has been officially announced via Google and now the accessories are available through the Google Play store. The Nexus 5 is for sale with a price tag that reads just $349 for the 16GB model while the 32GB model is priced at just $399. Both prices are without any contract with any carrier and come in both black and white colors for now. If you want another color, you will have to buy one of the new shiny cases that come in a variety of colors after you get your phone activated.
The accessories that showed up are really just basic cases that will fit your Nexus 5 just right and they include a basic bumper case for just $35 and a flip cover that is priced at just $50. Right now the cases are ready to ship from the Google Play store, but they could be available at Best Buy, Radio Shack and Amazon in the future if you want to look other places to make the purchase. Since the Nexus 5 is shipping on the 5th, you have a little bit of time to check out the cases.
The basic bumper case for the new Nexus smartphone is ready to ship in grey, black, red and very bright yellow. The case covers the sides of your device and has the Nexus logo imprinted on the back side as well, bringing a very “stock” look, but in another color. The Nexus 5 will slip right into the bumper case and it covers the buttons, weighs just 19 grams and adds less than 1.5mm to the thickness of the device. Google claims that the Nexus 5 wireless charging will work with the case on, noting that “With a hard outer shell and soft rubber lining the premium bumper case absorbs shocks while protecting your phone. For quick convenience, the Nexus 5 Bumper Case works seamlessly with Nexus Wireless Chargers so you can charge and go.”
The LG QuickCover for the Nexus 5 comes in black or white and will protect the front side of the device and is very similar to the LG cover for the G2 and Samsung’s Flip Cover for devices like the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note for instance. One feature of the Quickcover is that it will bring you out of sleep mode when you open it giving you access to your interface without unlocking it.
