When Motorola first announced its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich plans for the handsets that rolled off of its assembly line back in February, the manufacturer confirmed that the Motorola Droid Razr is still in the Evaluation and Planning stage of its ICS development. At that time, this meant that users of the handset still had a lot of waiting to do before they get to see their respective devices finally get a taste of ICS. Because of this, users of the Motorola Droid Razr can only take advantage of leaked ICS ROMs for the handset just to have an idea of what Ice Cream Sandwich will look like on the handset.

A couple of weeks back, Motorola came out with its updated ICS schedule and this time around, we see the Motorola Droid Razr getting a couple of jumps and can now be seen in the Development stage of its ICS update. In addition to that, the manufacturer also confirmed that it projects an ICS rollout for the handset before the end of Q2.
From then on, there were a lot of rumors that surfaced regarding the supposed Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Motorola Droid Razr. Sad to say, none of these rumors ever panned out and users of the handset had no choice but to go back to waiting mode for the update to finally land on their devices. In fact, there was even a rumor that the manufacturer has already sent out invites for users of the handset to take part in an ICS soak test to ensure the viability of the update before it gets released on a mass scale.
Motorola for its part however was able to keep its promise of an end of Q2 report when it first slowly started the rollout of the ICS update for the Motorola Droid Razr last June 22. At that time, the manufacturer confirmed that only a handful of users will get access to the update with a mass deployment scheduled to follow afterwards. That is for the Verizon version of the Motorola Droid Razr though.
GSM users of the Motorola Droid Razr still had to wait some more but good for them, the wait didn’t turn out to be that long since we already got the confirmation that the manufacturer has already started pushing out the ICS update for the GSM Motorola Droid Razr. Those users who have already taken advantage of the ICS update for the handset are mostly from Asia and at the moment, we still have no idea as to what Motorola’s plans are for a global update but users all over the world are assured that the ICS update will also land on their GSM Motorola Droid Razr handsets one way or the other.
With ICS already running its internals, the Motorola Droid Razr is expected to have a cleaner look for its UI and as confirmed in the past, Motorola’s MotoBlur user interface will lean more towards a stock Android experience compared to the heavily overlaid and customized versions of the UI in the past. You can buy the Verizon Motorola Droid Razr starting at $99.
