The HP tablet which was reported to have been found in the database of GFXBench yesterday has now come out with a spec sheet and name. It looks like the Slate 8 Pro is a step in the right direction from HP after it released the unimpressive and cheap Slate 7. The tablet, which has been codenamed Bodhi, is expected to come with an 8” display, as suggested by its name. However, it has an interesting and unorthodox display resolution of 1600×1200 which turns out to offer a 250ppi pixel density, which is rather impressive for a tablet.
Apart from that the tablet, which will run Android 4.2, will feature an NVIDIA Tegra 4 1.8 GHz chipset, which ensures great performance and some pretty high benchmark scores. The tablet, in fact, managed to reach a record score in the graphics performance benchmarks. It is expected to come with 2GB of RAM, a microSD slot to expand storage and a 5000+ mAh battery, and should give all the smaller Android tablets in the market a run for their money. If HP manages to keep its price reasonable, it could also provide a tough competition to the upcoming second version of Google Nexus 7.
In other news, Nokia has long been denying that a Windows RT based tablet is in the pipeline; however, it has now become very clear that the company is in fact working on such a device. Its official announcement is expected to come next month, as some of its specs have finally been leaked, providing details about the tablet. The new information states that Nokia’s new tablet will run Windows RT 8.1, which is likely to be released during October this year as the release of Windows 8.1 was recently pegged by Microsoft for the 17th of October.
If the rumors are to be believed, the tablet features a 10.1” display with a resolution of 1080p and also 5 features like wide viewing angles and a 5 point multi touch screen. This sounds good; however it is odd that the list mentions 5 point multi touch, as the standard these days is a 10 point multi touch screen. It is expected to be powered by a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with a storage capacity of 32 GB. It looks like this tablet will also come with a detachable stand/keyboard with an included battery. Like most other Windows Phone devices, it should also be available in a model with support for AT&T.
