droiddnaThe Samsung Galaxy S III and Apple iPhone 5 were in 2012, and are currently, the best-selling smartphones on the planet. Before the arrival of the Galaxy S III, there was no true iPhone competitor, and the Droid DNA 4G is an effort by smartphone manufacturer HTC to deliver a device to compete with both of those phones. Though the Droid DNA 4G is a feature packed handset which arguably has one of the best overall specs list of any current smartphone, HTC puts much of the focus on the handset’s large, high-resolution screen.

Smartphone shoppers are demanding larger and larger displays, and manufacturers must take heed. Evidence of that is the fact that Apple has finally released a 4.0 inch display for the first time in the history of the company on their iPhone 5. The Samsung Galaxy S III bested that display size considerably, by providing a 4.8 inch screen. And the Droid DNA 4G from HTC incrementally increases display size once again, delivering a 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 screen. Also, in pixel density, the HTC Droid DNA 4G smartphone delivers one of the highest designations we have ever seen on a mobile handset.

Pixel density is the measure of how many pixels, the smallest measurable elements of a picture, are located over a single inch of display space. The Droid DNA 4G uses a full 441 pixels per inch (ppi) to create visual displays, and this compares very favorably to the Galaxy S III’s 306 ppi, as well as the Apple iPhone 5′s 326 ppi. The Droid DNA 4G also leads the screen resolution battle, with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels on its display. The Galaxy S III is a True HD phone with 720 x 1,280 pixels, and the iPhone 5 offers 640 x 1,136 pixels.

The Droid DNA is an Android smartphone which is run by the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system with HTC Sense UI accepting multitouch, capacitive gestures. The handset’s power package is centered around a 1.5 GHz quad core Qualcomm CPU, a full 2.0 GB of RAM memory and Adreno 320 graphics processor. The handset also offers a microSD slot for storage expansion, and adds the exclusive Beats Audio sound system with dedicated headset and speaker amplifiers. Even though the Droid DNA 4G was designed to be slim and light, it is ensconced in a tough polycarbonate unibody.

The handset offers video out options, allowing you to mirror your display on an exterior HDTV or monitor, and it measures 5.55 x 2.78 x 0.38 inches (141 x 70.5 x 9.73 mm). The Droid DNA 4G is also light for offering such a large screen, weighing just 4.87 ounces (138 g). Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution with the rear mounted 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and that rear shooter is also capable of simultaneous HD video and snapshot capture.
