The HTC Droid DNA 4G runs exclusively on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in the United States. Released on November 21 of last year, the handset is slim and light considering the large display and power packed hardware set it offers. Android’s 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system is present out-of-the-box, supported by the HTC Sense UI Android overlay. The handset delivers a powerful quad core processor, twice the average amount of RAM memory for a smartphone, high-resolution video capture and the exclusive Beats Audio.
The handset also delivers a unibody design made of tough polycarbonate composition. The distinctive red grills on the side of the handset team up with a reflection eliminating laminated screen to offer a classy form factor. The handset also supports wireless charging, NFC wireless connectivity, and wireless DLNA video out options. HTC pulled the display from edge to edge on the front of the Droid DNA, allowing for the smallest possible form factor while still offering a large 5.0 inch 1,080P display.
That multitouch, capacitive screen delivers an industry-leading 441 pixels of color over every inch of display space, more than a 33% improvement over the pixel densities of both the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III smartphones. The HD video game Reign of Amira has been preloaded, and was placed in the handset to effectively demonstrate the powerful quad core processor and Adreno 320 GPU on board.
That quad core CPU has been clocked at 1.5 GHz, and joins a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 system chip in the handset’s hardware package. The HTC Droid DNA also offers a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory and 16 GB of built-in storage. Slim at 0.38 inches (9.73 mm), the Droid DNA offers a large 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 display with 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution.
A single charge of the 2,020 mA battery provides 14.6 days of battery standby power and 12.6 hours of talk time. The 8.0 megapixel camera on the back of the handset provides excellent low light performance with the extra-wide f/2.0 lens, backside illumination sensor and LED flash, and offers a special effects package. Recording video in 1,080P HD resolution, that rear snapper is also capable of simultaneous HD video and image capture, while offering a continuous shooting mode that captures up to four shots per second. A VGA quality front facing chat cam is also on board, offering video call support.
