htcdroiddnaHTC Droid DNA: Someone running through a “popular features” checklist for current Android smartphones would have to include a large high-resolution screen, powerful quad core processor, Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system and 4G LTE connectivity to the more desirable attributes smartphone shoppers are looking for these days. And you would also have to put a check-mark beside the HTC Droid DNA 4G for all of those high-end designations.

The handset hit the 4G LTE Verizon Wireless network on November 21 of 2012, and the slim, light and tough polycarbonate unibody is home to some rather impressive specifications and hardware. The handset offers the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out-of-the-box with the popular HTC Sense 4+ UI overlay, as well as the exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement package that includes a 2.5 volt headset amp and dedicated speaker amps.

The big-screen display is stretched from edge to edge to make for the smallest possible form factor with a large 5.0 inch screen, and the result is a smartphone design which is slim and light taking into account all that it offers. The handset measures 0.38 inches (9.73 mm) in thickness, and weighs 4.87 ounces (138 g). And that display is not only large, but it delivers the highest pixel density of any smartphone, dwarfing the designations offered by phones like the Samsung Galaxy S III and Apple iPhone 5.

In both size and pixel density the display on the HTC Droid DNA 4G eclipses that of both of those popular and best-selling smartphones. The HTC Droid DNA 4G delivers a 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 screen with incredible 441 pixels per inch, the GS III has a 4.8 inch display with 306 pixels per inch, while the Apple iPhone 5 offers 326 pixels per inch on its 4.0 inch display. Overall display resolution runs extremely high at 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, and more than 16 million separate colors make up the display.

That display includes scratch resistant glass, and the extended life 2,020 mA battery delivers roughly 50% better talk time than the typical 4G smartphone, at 12.6 hours offered from a single battery charge. The quad core processor is a 1.5 GHz chip, 16 GB of storage are built-in, and a full 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board. Joining Beats Audio in the multimedia package is a built-in YouTube video player, and the HTC Droid DNA contains a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder capable of 1,080P HD resolution video recording.
