Recently receiving a substantial price reduction, the Droid DNA 4G smartphone running on Verizon now retails for around $19 on contract at select online retail outlets. The phone arrived in November of last year with an impressive hardware and software package, and currently runs the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system with HTC Sense UI Android overlay. Last year the Korean smartphone manufacturer bought a controlling interest in the Beats by Dr. Dre sound system, and has included Beats Audio sound enhancement in the Droid DNA 4G.
The HTC Droid DNA 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99.
The phone has also received substantial RAM memory, a powerful quad core central processor and extremely high pixel density. HTC designed the handset in a slim and light form factor, and ensconced it in a tough polycarbonate unibody. The aesthetics are sleek and unique, thanks to a seamless laminated screen, distinctive red side grills and ultra-matte finish. The most immediately noticeable characteristic is, however, the large high-resolution screen. Delivering a pixel density more than 33% higher than the Apple iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III, the HTC Droid DNA 4G offers 441 color pixels over each inch of display space.
Slim at 0.38 inches (9.73 mm), the phone delivers a large 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 display and Full HD resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. More than 16 million colors are employed when rendering visuals, and the screen is protected by a scratch resistant layer of Gorilla Glass 2. Like most other Android handsets, the Droid DNA 4G for Verizon supports standard capacitive, multitouch gestures for device interaction, and the onboard light and proximity sensors help conserve battery power.
This helps the 2,020 mA cell on board the Droid DNA 4G deliver up to 14.6 days of standby battery power, as well as 12.6 hours of talk time from a full charge. The phone delivers NFC wireless support out-of-the-box, popular applications YouTube and Picasa have been pre-installed, and Bluetooth 4.0 joins DLNA video out and mobile Wi-Fi hotspot access as wireless connectivity options. The Droid DNA 4G power pack is anchored by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 system chip.
At its core is a quad core Krait CPU which has been clocked at 1.5 GHz, and an Adreno 225 GPU handles all graphics processing. HTC has added 16 GB of onboard data storage space, as well as a generous 2.0 GB of RAM memory. The 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the handset can provide simultaneous high definition video and image capture, and records video in 1,080P HD resolution. Also on board is a front facing chat cam with video call support.
The HTC Droid DNA 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
