htcdroiddnaAnnounced last November and released the same month, the HTC Droid DNA runs on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the US. The handset is attractive for a lot of reasons, and is HTC’s effort to compete directly with the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone giants. One of the first handsets to deliver a large 5.0 inch display with 1,080P Full HD resolution, the HTC Droid DNA also comes equipped with a powerful quad core central processor, substantial RAM system memory, simultaneous video and image capture at 1,080P HD resolution and the exclusive Beats Audio sound package.

Recently spotted online at the Amazon Wireless store with a $49 on contract price tag, the handset has received a retail price reduction just in time to combat upcoming new smartphone announcements. The handset’s display delivers one of the highest pixel rates of any phone at 441 ppi. That is a full 33% more pixel distribution than the Apple iPhone 5 (326 ppi) and Samsung Galaxy S III (306 ppi) smartphones. The handset also outdoes its two biggest competitors by offering a 5.0 inch screen, whereas the Galaxy S III delivers a 4.8 inch display, with the Apple iPhone 5 offering the first 4.0 inch display in that iconic smartphone lineup’s history.

That large 5.0 inch display is an ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 model, and while that is one of the largest screens of any smartphone, the handset is slim at 0.38 inches (9.73 mm) and light at 4.87 ounces (138 g), when compared to other smartphones with such a big screen. With more than 16 million colors present, the screen accepts capacitive, multitouch gestures, and is protected by a layer of scratch resistant glass.

Battery power on the HTC Droid DNA is approximately 50% better than what is offered by the typical smartphone, at 12.6 hours after a full battery charge. HTC ImageChip technology built into the back facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder makes sure the shot is always in focus, and that rear snapper records video in 1,080P HD resolution. There is also a front facing chat cam on board the Droid DNA 4G Android smartphone.

The handset is run by a 1.5 GHz quad core central processor. A Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 system chip is on board, as is an Adreno 320 graphics processor. The Droid DNA 4G delivers 16 GB of built-in storage and 2.0 GB of RAM system memory. A YouTube video player comes pre-installed out-of-the-box, as does a built-in music player which can filter your selections by album title, artist name or play list, and the Droid DNA offers NFC wireless support.
