The HTC Droid DNA is a 4G Android smartphone that runs on the Verizon Wireless system in the United States. The handset recently benefited from a drastic price reduction, and even though it is a consistent bestseller for Amazon, that online retailer is currently offering the Droid DNA 4G at the bargain bin rate of $49 on contract. While the handset does offer a powerful quad core processor, exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement and impressive camera package, the display is the first thing on the handset that catches your eye.
The Droid DNA 4G arrived on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the US in late November of last year, and offers arguably the highest pixel density of any current 4G smartphone. With 441 pixels over each inch of display space on the large 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3, the resulting screen resolution runs exceptionally high at 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. That capacitive, multitouch screen uses more than 16 million independent colors to create displays, and the extreme pixel density is more than 33% higher than the screens offered by the Galaxy S III and iPhone 5.
Smartphones now deliver impressive high resolution screens, and any handset which offers at least 300 pixels per inch of display space is going to have a very attractive resolution and display regardless of screen size. Having said that, the pixel density of the HTC Droid DNA far outperforms the 306 ppi offering of the 4.8 inch display on the Galaxy S III, as well as the 326 ppi performance of the iPhone 5′s 4.0 inch screen. Both of those handset displays look great, but the Droid DNA gives high-end pixel density new meaning.
The Droid DNA 4G adds the HTC Sense UI to the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system, and also adds a 2.5 volt headset amplifier and dedicated speaker amps to its sound enhancement package. The high-powered handset also offers twice the usual amount of RAM memory at 2.0 GB, and is powered by a quad core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm CPU. Mobile gamers will appreciate that the Droid DNA 4G comes equipped with the HD game Reign of Amira preloaded, and that game benefits from the onboard Adreno 320 graphics processor.
All those features are packed into a skinny and light smartphone considering its display size, and the handset weighs 4.87 ounces (138 g), measuring just 0.38 inches (9.73 mm) in thickness. Talk time runs as high as 12.6 hours from a full battery charge, and simultaneous high quality snapshots can be recorded while shooting high definition video with the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder. That rear snapper also provides a continuous shooting mode, capturing up to four shots per second, and the exclusive HTC ImageChip removes noise, balances color and keeps your whole shot in focus while recording video in 1,080P HD resolution.
