For those of you that thought you might see the Android 4.4 KitKat software by the end of this month on your Droid DNA, you might want to move that day on your calendar as the company just officially announced that it would not happen this month. It is not good news when the company moves the day that you can expect to see the software update for your phone, but at least HTC did not confirm that it was not coming at this time.
HTC make the announcement this week that it would be getting the new Android 4.4 KitKat software out to those with the Droid DNA by the end of the first quarter. That might not seem like a long time to wait, but that does mean that it could come on the last day of March this year. The company did not offer any specific date that you could expect it, however, once that information is ready to be passed along you will be able to find it online. HTC did shine a little light on the subject via Twitter, which happens to be a favorite option for HTC execs to answer questions.
HTC has missed reported update releases in the past, but the company has done a better job at keeping customers informed of the exact dates all along the way. HTC even set up a website that offers information for each of the devices that it offers and in what part of the process each of the updates is as it moves along. The odds are very good that the new Android software will also include some updates from HTC and that could be the addition of Sense 5.5. Newer devices would be getting updated to Sense 6, but for the Droid DNA that is not going to be the case.
Sense 5.5 is already out on the market and brings extra features and functions to the stock Android software, while Sense 6 is software that is rumored to be coming with the new smartphone that is expected to replace the popular HTC One this year. The new HTC Two, or HTC M8 is expected to arrive on the market sometime next month according to reports that were released last week. HTC still has not confirmed the device, hence the reason there is no official name for it.
