The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be officially announced on March 14 in New York City. The AT&T wireless network in the United States is set to release the BlackBerry Z10 on March 15, after a March 14 announcement. And in the United Kingdom, the much-anticipated HTC One is set to release on March 14 as well. HTC is trying to retain market share on their popular Droid DNA 4G smartphone, and is doing so by lowering the handset’s price tag at several online wireless retailers. The handset was recently seen at select online retailers carrying a price as low as $49 on contract.
The handset arrived on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States in late November of last year, and has been an excellent seller for that wireless carrier. The Droid DNA offers the 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system out-of-the-box, coupled with the HTC Sense user interface. The phone boasts a quad core CPU, double the average amount of RAM memory found on a smartphone, a large high-resolution screen and exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement.
That Beats Audio delivers dedicated speaker amps for bigger sound, as well as a 2.5 volt headset amplifier. A built-in music player and onboard YouTube video player are also found in the handset’s multimedia package. The slim design comes in a tough but light polycarbonate unibody, with distinctive ultra-matte finish and red side grills. The phone is also designed with a seamless laminated screen that eliminates reflection. To help you stay connected more frequently, the HTC Droid DNA offers built-in wireless charging support.
The battery on board the handset delivers 12.6 hours of talk time from a full battery charge, as well as 14.6 days of standby battery power. HTC designed the phone to hopefully compete directly with the two powerful best-selling smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S III and Apple iPhone 5. The HTC Droid DNA outdoes both of those handsets where pixel density is concerned, offering an extremely high rate of 441 pixels per inch. The Apple iPhone 5 delivers a 326 ppi pixel density, and the Galaxy S III is more than respectable at 306 pixels per inch.
The large 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 display is protected by a layer of scratch resistant glass, and delivers 16 million colors in 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution. A quad core 1.5 GHz CPU is part of a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 chip package, 2.0 GB of RAM memory is found onboard the handset, as is 16 GB of built-in data storage. The Droid DNA also offers a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder with simultaneous image and video capture at 1,080P HD resolution.
