droiddnaWith the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system update already hitting Taiwan recently on the HTC Butterfly, it appears it is just a matter of time before the handset upgrade heads West and arrives in the United States. The HTC Butterfly is the Taiwanese variant of the Droid DNA 4G, and watching the 4.2.2 Android operating system boost mesh perfectly with the hardware on the Butterfly is good news because the handset is virtually the same inside and out as the North American HTC Droid DNA 4G.

The HTC Droid DNA 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at .

This means that the arrival of the Android update on the Droid DNA running on the Verizon Wireless network in the US should be seamless when it hits. More good news concerning the bargain priced handset, which can be purchased for $49 on contract online, revolves around the software upgrade. HTC has stated that their Sense 5.0 user interface which meshes with Android will also be present in the over the air software transfer. Verizon has been doing a much better job recently in delivering operating system upgrades than their performance evidenced by their past tendencies in that regard.

With high resolution video capture, a slim, light and tough one piece polycarbonate form factor, huge high resolution display and powerful quad core processor, the Droid DNA presents arguably one of the best hardware packages of any smartphone ever designed. The lowered retail price is a combination of the upcoming HTC One hitting the Verizon Wireless network, as well as sales by HTC not being right where the company wants them. This is a boon to Android smartphone shoppers, as the multimedia-talented Droid DNA 4G will soon have the latest Android operating system, the latest HTC user interface, and an entry-level price tag.

The phone also delivers Beats Audio sound system enhancement, the HD fantasy realm game Reign of Amira, NFC support, HDMI and wireless DLNA video out options. Mobile handsets have been getting larger and larger screens, and HTC has intelligently stretched their display from edge to edge to keep the 5.0 inch Super LCD3 screen from making the handset bulky. Slim at 0.38 inches (9.73 mm) in thickness, the Droid DNA 4G offers a Full HD designation display with 441 pixels per inch, for an overall 1,080 x 1,920 pixel resolution.

A quad core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon CPU powers the phone, 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is present, as is 16 GB of storage space. The premier camera can record video in 1,080P HD resolution, 30 frames per second and in stereo sound, and is located on the back of the handset. The 8.0 megapixel camera contains a customization and special effects package, and is joined in the DNA 4G camera combo by a front facing chat cam of 2.1 megapixels. That front snapper can also record video in 1,080P HD resolution.

The HTC Droid DNA 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at .

  1. Like freakin WHEN????????? Why does this always take forever. First I bought a great phone at full price then watched everyone else I know get one for a 1/4 the price or for free. Why do they have to make us wait for an update they already know works. Have known works for some time. But yet they just don’t release it…. frustrating….

Don’t even know if I’ll really use any of the features, I just know it’s out there and I want it. Not a patient guy :)
