HTC Evo 4G Gingerbread Upgrade Update and Full Phone Specifications

Many 4G smartphones, the HTC Evo 4G included, have been receiving upgrades to Android’s Gingerbread operating system recently. Google has said that upgrades to Gingerbread are going to be made across the board and rolled out to every Android capable handset, across all wireless service providers. If you haven’t received your update, never fear. Google has promised to work in congress with Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon to ensure that all updates occur this fall.

The HTC Evo was one of the most recent telephones to receive a Gingerbread upgrade over the air. Nothing is required technically from the end-user other than clicking on the notification they will receive, and following two or three easy-to-follow steps to ensure that the over the air software upgrade takes place.

There was also a minor update to HTC’s software over the air, which improves the voice identification when using voice recognition, and also fixes image resizing issue when you transfer contacts over Bluetooth connection. Picasa also had some video and imaging problems which and and fix, and group contacts will now show up in alphabetical order. HTC Evo 4G owners also reported getting out of memory errors which have been repaired by this minor update as well.

The HTC Evo 4G Android handset is the first phone to arrive on Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network. The Evo 4G also offers, via Sprint’s 4G network, the ability to stream data during a voice call. While in the middle of a voice call you can surf the web, download apps or software, and up or download data. Similar to Verizon’s Thunderbolt and Droid Charge, the HTC Evo 4G uses a black slab form with a 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen which is covered by a protective layer of anti-scratch Corning Gorilla Glass. A single core Snapdragon 1.0 GHz processing chip is backed up by 512 MB of RAM memory and 1.0 GB of ROM memory. Dual eight megapixel and 1.3 megapixel cameras are on board, and the HTC Evo 4G can record in 720P HD. A microUSB port is on board, and a microSD slot allows for storage expansion up to 32 GB. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity are also present, and video out is supplied by HDMI technology. The HTC Evo 4G Android smartphone is exclusive to the Sprint 4G WiMAX network.

  1. The updates that are being push has no google video chat both evo 4g and evo 3d. What is the since of getting Gingerbread 2.3.4 but lack of video chat and maybe a few other things missing..

  2. I have rooted my evo 4g and can’t update my phone. Any ideas? I rooted my evo using the zedomax method on htcevohacks.com.
