The skinny handset (0.35 inches or 8.9 mm thick) is slimmer than virtually all other 4G smartphones, and delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support for applications like Google Wallet. The HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone is also one of the first mobile handsets to offer simultaneous high resolution video and snapshot capture. The F/2.0 lens on the 8.0 megapixel camcorder captures 40% more light than the standard 4G smartphone camera, allowing for excellent low light operation. High resolution 1,080P HD video capture is delivered by the camcorder, and the camera also offers a back illuminated sensor (BSI), CMOS image sensor, ISO control, multishot mode and high dynamic range mode (HDR).
With one of the most complete feature sets of any smartphone camcorder, that rear device also delivers autofocus, smile and face detection, exposure control, white balance, a digital zoom, geo-tagging, a panorama mode, a special effects package and is equipped with a self timer. A front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam is also present, and screen resolution runs to the extreme high end of the 4G smartphone marketplace, at 312 pixels per inch. That gives the HTC Evo 4G LTE handset an overall display resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels on the 4.7 inch Super LCD 2 screen. Displays are presented in more than 16 million colors, and a protective layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass overlays the screen.
The Qualcomm MSM8960 microchip package that powers the handset includes a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor and graphics dedicated Adreno 225 chip. 16 GB of storage are built into the handset, a microSD slot is present for storage extension, and the handset contains a full 1.0 GB of RAM system memory. The Beats Audio package mentioned earlier joins a proprietary YouTube video player and built-in music player in the multimedia package. Buy the HTC Evo 4G LTE starting at $149.
