Sprint just recently launched their 4G LTE network in the United States, and now has a capable and speedy home for phones like the HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone. That was one of the first LTE equipped devices to arrive at Sprint, and uses the HTC recipe of an incredibly large and high resolution screen and powerful processor to deliver an Android smartphone more than capable of exploiting 4G LTE speeds. When it arrived in early June it was an instant hit with Sprint, even though it was running on the Sprint 3G network at the time. And with the roll-out of the new 4G LTE Sprint wireless network in the US, sales support has continued to be strong for the HTC Evo 4G LTE.
The most popular mobile handsets these days are skinny, and this handset is no different, with a super thin 0.35 inch (8.99 mm) profile. A convenient built-in kickstand on the back of the handset allows for hands-free viewing of videos and movies, and the HTC Evo 4G LTE delivers Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box. The Sense v4.0 Android overlay user interface accepts standard multitouch, capacitive gestures for device navigation. The large 4.70 inch display is one of the biggest found on any smartphone, and more than 16 million different colors join a pixel density of 312 pixel per inch for one of the highest resolution and full-color displays of any 4G smartphone.
That 4.70 inch Super LCD2 screen is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass, and has an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. The built-in proximity and light sensors help conserve battery life and deliver automatic screen brightness adjustments. In the hardware set on board the HTC Evo 4G LTE the powerful 1.5 GHz Krait central processor also found in the HTC One X is the centerpiece. The Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip package is built around that CPU, and a separate Adreno 225 GPU exclusively handles all graphics processing. 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board as well as 16 GB of user accessible, built-in data storage. A microSD slot is provided for storage expansion options.
The handset contains a rear mounted 8.0 megapixel camcorder which was the first camera found on a smartphone to deliver the ability to simultaneously capture still images while recording HD video in stereo sound. Video is captured in 1,080P HD resolution, and a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam faces the user and provides video call support. The multimedia package on board the HTC Evo 4G LTE smartphone contains the full range Beats Audio sound system, a Stereo FM radio with RDS song and album display, and a YouTube video player.
