Shipments of the HTC Evo 4G LTE which will be running on the Sprint 4G network have been delayed, and while the device is not on physical store shelves yet, online retailers like Amazon are accepting pre-orders for $149 on contract. The Evo 4G delivers the Holy Grail grand slam of top-notch smartphone features, with Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0, the full range Beats by Dr. Dre audio software, an extremely fast processor and large high resolution display. Those four characteristics are reason enough for an Android smartphone shopper to consider the Evo 4G LTE, but the handset also adds a handy kickstand for hands-free viewing, Near Field Communications (NFC) support, and arguably the best camera feature package found in a 4G smartphone.

HTC’s Sense version 4.0 user interface meshes perfectly with ICS 4.0, and the display on the HTC Evo 4G runs 4.70 inches, one of the largest found on any mobile handset. Extremely high pixel density is delivered at 312 pixels per inch, for an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The S-LCD 2 display supports capacitive, multitouch gestures to navigate the device, and specialized glass treatment offers scratch resistance. Also, at 0.35 inches (8.99 mm), the handset is exceedingly thin.

An extended life 2,000 mA battery is on board, and the hardware package includes a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip set. Included in that suite of chips is a dual core 1.5 GHz S4 Krait processor and Adreno 225 GPU. A full 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is built-in, as is 16 GB of storage. A microSD slot is provided for storage expansion.

The camcorder on the back of the Evo 4G LTE smartphone comes equipped with an LED flash, back illuminated sensor (BSI), CMOS image sensor, and the ability to capture snapshots while simultaneously recording high definition video at 1,080P HD. That rear snapper also delivers autofocus, face detection, exposure control, ISO control, digital zoom, panorama mode, special effects, a self timer, smile detection, white balance, multishot mode, geo-tagging and a high dynamic range mode (HDR). Joining it in the camera combo is a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam.

A Bluetooth FM stereo radio joins a proprietary YouTube video player in the multimedia package, and they both benefit by the addition of the Beats audio software package. Google integration runs complete with Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail and Google Talk, and active noise cancellation works in tandem with the dedicated microphone to provide hands-free voice calling, voice memo recording and other voice commands.  Buy the HTC Evo 4G LTE starting at $149.
