When it comes to wireless providers in our side of the world, Verizon is still at the top spot in terms of LTE coverage because of the breadth and width of its LTE network. Coming in on the second spot is AT&T while Sprint with its nascent LTE network is at third place. Understandably, Verizon will have a huge lead over its competitors because it is after all the first carrier in US shores to light up an LTE network. AT&T and Sprint however are still trying to play catch-up hoping to achieve what Big Red has managed to achieve so far.
But if you happen to be a subscriber of the Now Network, word on the street is that the carrier is in the final preparations of further expanding its LTE coverage. According to our source, Sprint is set to light up its LTE network in a total of 21 new cities on April 12 and has even sent a picture of an internal Sprint system showing the list of the cities that are about to get a taste of Sprint LTE this Friday – if everything pans out, that is.
Based on the image sent by our source, the cities which will get blanketed by Sprint’s LTE network come April 12 are as follows:
- California: Los Angeles, Contra Costa County
- Florida: Palm Bay, Port St. Lucie, West Palm Beach
- Indiana: Bloomington and Lafayette
- Illinois: Rochelle
- Minnesota: Mankato-North Mankato
- Missouri: Joplin
- North Carolina: Charlotte, Shelby, Albemarle, Sailsbury, Lincolnton
- Tennessee: Memphis, Greenville, Tullahoma
- Texas: Denison, Kerrville
- Virginia: Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Newport News
If all goes well, then Sprint subscribers living in the locations mentioned above will soon have access to all the benefits of Sprint’s LTE network such as ultra-fast mobile internet speeds with DL speeds ranging from a regular of 6 to 8 Mbps that could even peak to as much as 25 Mbps. And since the carrier has an extensive lineup of handsets that support LTE such as the HTC EVO 4G LTE, subscribers of the Now Network will not have a hard time getting their hands on an LTE-capable handset that will let them take advantage of this upcoming expansion.
When talking about the HTC EVO 4G LTE, the handset was added to the lineup of Spring back in April 2012 but got delayed in hitting the shelves because it got held up at the US Customs while the International Trade Commission investigated the handset because Apple claimed that the HTC handset infringed on some of its patents.
Under the hood, the operation of the HTC EVO 4G LTE is powered by a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset which brings into play a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 1GB of RAM for a smoother and snappier performance in the handset. The HTC EVO 4G LTE only has 16GB of onboard storage but a user can make use of its microSD card slot for memory expansion purposes. As for its display, the HTC EVO 4G LTE comes with a 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD 2 panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration on the other hand features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
