When Sprint announced the addition of the HTC EVO 4G LTE to its lineup of Android devices back in April, the carrier boasted that one of the selling points of the handset is its ability to make use of the NFC chip in its chassis, hence enabling its users to take advantage of the Google Wallet feature on the smartphone. However, before the HTC EVO 4G LTE hit the shelves, it had to stay at the US Customs for an extended period of time because the International Trade Commission had to subject the handset to a thorough once over.
The ITC’s review of the HTC EVO 4G LTE was caused by an injunction after Apple filed a lawsuit claiming that the handset infringed on some of its patents. HTC was quick to the rescue and revisited the software of the handset and in the process took out the infringing code. This gave the HTC EVO 4G LTE the green light to continue on its journey to the shelves of Sprint.
Though the HTC EVO 4G LTE finally made its debut in the shelves of the carrier, the handset’s woes did not end there. A couple of months back, users of the handset encountered error messages saying “Google Wallet has not yet been certified in your country or on your device / carrier” when trying to access the feature. This was later taken care of by Google when it released a software update that got the Google Wallet functionality on the handset up and running again.
And more recently, Google released another update that hugely improved the functionality of the feature on the HTC EVO 4G LTE. The update gave Google Wallet support for credit cards such as MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover. The update also improved the security of Google Wallet by transferring all of its data in the cloud instead of having it stored on your device.
With that update, users of the HTC EVO 4G LTE who use Discover for their plastic can now easily save their card to Google Wallet with Discover Card now using the new Save to Wallet API for Payment Cards. If you are interested in doing so, all you need to do is to go to discover.com/googlewallet and access your Discover account. Then, you just click on “Add Your Card” and sign into your Google Account and you’re done.
With this in place, you now have the option to select your Discover Card as the primary method that Google Wallet will use when using the app for payments. And the best part is that you will still earn rewards on every purchase that you make as if you were still using your Discover plastic for that matter. The card imagery of the Discover More card will also come up on the Google Wallet app on your handset so you can easily identify it when selecting from the list of cards added to your mobile wallet.
