An unnamed HTC executive recently reported to the Wall Street Journal that the HTC One has sold in advance of 5 million units. Not bad for a phone which has only been available in the smartphone-addicted United States for about a month. The handset delivers the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out-of-the-box, and there are several unofficial and unsanctioned versions of Jelly Bean 4.2 available online if you are willing to risk bricking your phone and voiding your warranty.
The HTC One 4G Stealth Black is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $79.99.
Android 4.2.2 has been rumored substantially for the HTC One with an arrival date of sometime in June or July, and recent rumors also point to a “Google edition” of the popular HTC One 4G. Geek.com recently reported that HTC is planning to launch the flagship One with a stock version of Android’s 4.2.2 operating system that does not include the HTC Sense user interface. Geek.com went on to report that the new device would be available initially in the United States, and went on to specify that the HTC One Google edition would be announced within the next couple of weeks.
The handset is now available in Stealth Black and Glacial Silver, and has received a “Green Machine” certification at the platinum level by the independent testing lab UL Environment. They award platinum certification to those consumer-electronics which offer environmentally friendly materials with a minimal environmental impact throughout the life of the device. Made slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm) in thickness, the handset delivers a large 4.70 inch Super LCD 3 display. Standard capacitive, multitouch gestures are used for device navigation, and the phone spreads 16 million colors over that screen at the rate of 468 pixels per inch, for an overall resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels.
Up to 16.0 hours of talk time and 8.5 hours of video playback can be achieved from a single charge, and the HTC One is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T system chip. At its core is a 1.7 GHz quad core CPU, with 2.0 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in storage rounding out the hardware profile. The camera on the back of the handset offers 4.0 UltraPixels, an improved CMOS image sensor, ISP and advanced optical lens system.
This allows for up to 300% more light capture than those smartphone cameras offering 8.0 or 13.0 megapixels, and video is recorded in 1,080P HD resolution. That rear snapper can also simultaneously record video while capturing high definition images, and delivers a multishot burst mode, special effects package and self timer. Video is recorded in stereo sound, and the HTC One comes equipped with a Stereo FM radio with RDS, the exclusive Beats Audio sound system and front facing dual stereo speakers.
The HTC One 4G Stealth Black can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $79.99.
