March 14 is set to be a busy day in the global smartphone marketplace. That is the day that Samsung Electronics has chosen to debut and officially release their upcoming and the long-awaited Galaxy S4 smartphone in New York City. That is also the day that AT&T will launch the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone and BlackBerry 10 operating system in the United States, beating their top three competitors to the punch in that regard. It is also probably the day that the powerful HTC One will launch in the United Kingdom.
We say probably because the Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer has not specified an exact HTC One launch date, but “leaks” to the web and other details on the Internet the past few weeks point to this as the probable date for that handset to debut in the UK. It looks like the handset will begin rolling out in Taiwan on March 7, announced on March 14 in the UK and then available for purchase in the United Kingdom the following day. It appears that other countries in Europe will be offering the handset a few days after British stores, and American shoppers waiting for the HTC one will not have to bide their time much longer. That handset should debut in the United States on March 22.
The March 14 release date is just a tad perplexing, as the Samsung Galaxy S4 announcement on that same date in New York City in the United States will undoubtedly garner all the attention of the press and industry analysts. AT&T’s BlackBerry Z10 announcement as well as the HTC One release on that same date probably could have been handled a little better.
HTC focused on four major areas for improving their previous handsets when they created the One smartphone. The company said they wanted to improve camera quality, and they certainly have by including optical image stabilization and the new UltraPixel technology. The handset also offers a revamped design, with a durable, premium metal unibody. HTC also tweaked their popular Sense user interface to make it simpler and easier to use, and stereo sound has been enhanced through all applications.
The HTC One offers the exclusive Beats Audio sound system, and delivers a large 4.7 inch 1,080p Full HD display. Pixel density runs extremely high at 468 pixels per inch, and the handset is powered by a Snapdragon 600 quad core chip that delivers up to 40% more powerful than the Snapdragon S4 Pro. A layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protects the display against everyday wear and tear, and the handset will be offered in 32 and 64 GB models.
