In the current smartphone world, today’s crop of handsets that find their way to the shelves (most of them), are usually done in a black paint job. This is especially true to the Android platform where most of the handsets released in the market come in a black colorway. This is in fact one of the reason why Android-powered smartphones are look like twins of each other and are virtually indistinguishable from each other once they are already lined up on the shelves.

However, there are recent cases wherein handsets are actually released covered in a paint job OTHER than black. Take the case of the Samsung Galaxy S III for example. When it initially hit the shelves back in May, the handset was only available in a Marble White and Pebble Blue edition. Of course, the Korean electronics giant also came around to releasing a black version of its flagship device but it took them a couple of months before they finally confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S III will indeed be released in a black paint job.

Another manufacturer that comes to mind when discussing the topic mentioned above is Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer HTC and its One S smartphone. Back when the HTC One S was unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona in February, the handset was only made available in a slightly bluish colorway. This was no longer surprising at all because HTC already started manufacturing handsets in colorways OTHER than black and this got rampant during the time of the HTC Sensation.

Now, going back to the HTC One S, if you happen to have T-Mobile for your wireless provider and have passed up on the HTC One S just because there was no version of the handset in a black paint job available at the Magenta carrier, you would definitely be interested with the news that T-Mobile is now offering a Ceramic Black version of the handset.

Nothing is special with this version of the handset. It has the same resume as the original version of the HTC One S except that it comes in a black paint job. And to some, having a device in a black colorway is very important because it projects the air of an industrial and minimalist design. Others on the other hand would see it as very “manly” and prefer their gadgets to exude just that.

As for the HTC One S, the handset comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich but an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has already been confirmed for the handset. The circuitry of the device revolves around its QualComm MSM8260A SnapDragon S3 chipset which comes with a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space onboard the HTC One S comes up to 16GB while its display is a 4.3-inch SuperAMOLED panel made from Gorilla Glass with a qHD resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Its camera department on the other hand boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front VGA video call and self-portrait camera.
