The HTC One is a 4G capable Android smartphone which was due to hit the mobile marketplace in early March. However, poor financials were recently announced for Q1 for HTC, and whether it was linked to that disclosure or not, the launch of the HTC One was pushed back. The handset is now expected to hit the tech hungry United States consumer electronics marketplace on April 19, offered by Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile. The handset will feature a 1,080P Full HD display, quad core processor and high resolution video capture with a green machine designation.
The independent company UL Environment has given the HTC One their platinum green certification, which is offered only to those smartphones that contain “environmentally preferable materials with a minimal environmental impact.” The handset platform is the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system with HTC Sense UI and HTC BlinkFeed. The BlinkFeed functionality allows users to choose those social networking sites, news and updates they want to stay alerted to, and they are streamed live to the HTC One’s home screen.
The handset offers a 2.1 megapixel front facing camera and rear mounted 8.0 megapixel camcorder. Full HD 1,080P video recording is provided by the rear camera, which also delivers a back illuminated sensor (BSI), optical image stabilization, and cutting edge UltraPixel technology. Low light camera operation is excellent thanks to the built-in LED flash and f/2.0 sensor on that rear shooter, which also delivers a self timer, an extensive special effects package, a multishot burst mode and extra-wide panorama capture.
Simultaneous high definition video and snapshot capture is also delivered, and the front facing chat cam also offers video call support. The phone is designed in a slim, metal unibody form factor, and the 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 quad core processor is capable of up to 40% more power than the Snapdragon S4 Pro. An Adreno 320 GPU and microSD slot join 32 GB of built-in storage and 2.0 GB of RAM memory in the handset’s hardware package. The HTC One will also be offered in a 64 GB model, and the 4.7 inch S-LCD 3 display is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 2.
HTC has included the exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement package, as well as popular YouTube and Picasa applications. Overall screen resolution on the large 4.7 inch display runs 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, and the HTC One has delivered impressive performances from its built-in 2,300 mA battery in third-party tests. A full 8.5 hours of video playback and more than 16 hours of talk time of been achieved from a single battery charge. The handset can also function as a wireless Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple devices.
