The battle of the quad-core superphones is now underway with HTC drawing first blood with the release of the HTC One X 4G while Samsung answers back with its unveiling of its Samsung Galaxy S III. Looking back, we knew the HTC One X 4G as the HTC Edge in the past and the handset from the Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer had the distinction of being the first smartphone in the world to get a quad-core processor under the hood.

In US shores, it was AT&T who managed to get first dibs on the handset when it officially announced the addition of the HTC One X 4G to its lineup of Android-powered smartphones back in February. Today, the handset finally made its debut in the shelves of the wireless provider and is now available for mass consumption for that matter. If you have been eyeing the handset for the longest time, you can purchase it directly from the carrier for $199.99 so long as you sign a new two-year agreement with AT&T to take advantage of the handset at its carrier-subsidized price point. If you are averse to having AT&T as your wireless provider of choice for the next two years, you also have the option of buying the HTC One X 4G at its off-contract price point of $549.99.
If you however want to maximize your savings and bring home the HTC One X 4G at a much cheaper price compared to its carrier listed price, then you can do so at select AT&T authorized online retailers where the handset is being offered for only $149.99 which happens to be 50 bucks cheaper compared to when getting the handset directly from the wireless provider. Of course, you will be required to sign the mandatory new two-year contract with AT&T to take advantage of this deal. If you still don’t want contracts involved in the process, the HTC One X 4G can also be had at the online retailer at the same $549.99 off-contract price same as with AT&T.
Unlike the international version of the HTC One X, AT&T’s variant is powered by “just” a dual-core processor under the hood but this does not mean that the HTC One X 4G is terribly underpowered. In fact, there were reports that the AT&T variant of the handset got better benchmark scores compared to its quad-core sibling. Under the hood, the operation of the AT&T HTC One X 4G is powered by a dual-core Krait processor running at 1.5 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM, both of which are found in the SoC-based QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset of the handset.
Graphical concerns on the other hand are handled by the handset’s dedicated Adreno 225 GPU while the Gorilla Glass display of the HTC One X 4G measures 4.7 inches and is of the Super IPS LCD2 variety with a 1280 x 720 resolution. Storage space of the HTC One X 4G comes up to 16GB while its camera department on the other hand features an 8MP autofocus camera with LED flash at its back side while a 1.3MP shooter can be found out front.
