Back in the day, quad-core powered smartphones were mere plans on the drawing boards of manufacturers. HTC however made this a reality late last year when news of the existence of the HTC Edge leaked out. It turned out that the handset already packs a quad-core processor under the hood giving it the distinction to have that monster of a processor in its internals. We followed the story of the HTC Edge and saw it go through several name changes before it was unveiled as the HTC One X over at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona back in February.

AT&T on the other hand released the HTC One X its version of the handset in US shores where the smartphone instantly became a hit with the wireless provider. There was one glaring difference though – AT&T variant only had a dual-core processor under the hood because the quad-core Tegra 3 chipset found in the original version of the device did not support the LTE network of the carrier. Be that as it may, the HTC One X did not seem underpowered compared to its quad-core sibling and even managed to get better benchmark scores when it came head to head against the international quad-core version.

And now that the HTC One X is about to head for retirement because AT&T already announced the addition of its successor in the form of the HTC One X+, it is now more affordable to get your hands on the HTC One X 4G. In fact, AT&T has already given the green light to its authorized resellers to sell the handset at a much cheaper price point thereby making the handset the best superphone on a budget over at AT&T. With this very affordable price point, you now can get your hands on the HTC One X 4G at a price that you would normally pay for an entry-level device. Of course, you will still be required to sign a new two-year service agreement with AT&T if you want to take advantage of the handset at its listed price. Even if you are averse to getting tied down with AT&T for two more years, it still is a worthy compromise – after all, you are going home with a very capable device that has enough fire power under its hood.

As of the moment, the HTC One X 4G runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system but an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is in the offing for the handset. Its circuitry revolves around the device’s QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset while a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor works in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM in generating the computing power required for the smooth and snappy operation of the device. The storage space onboard the handset comes up to 16GB while its display is a 4.7-inch SuperIPS LCD 2 panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution. Its camera department is just as impressive with the handset’s rear-facing 8Mp shooter and front-facing 1.3MP snapper, both of which are capable of recording videos at 1080p and 720p respectively.
