This year the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) held their annual wireless Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States on May 7 and 8. Hundreds of manufacturers were there displaying their new products and technologies, and industry analysts were present to check out the new toys. Among much praise was that lauded upon the HTC One X handset by Videomaker. The mission statement on the Videomaker website says that they are, “Your guide to creating and publishing great video.” And the video dedicated site was so impressed with the HTC One X 4G Android smartphone they bestowed upon it their CTIA 2012 Spotlight Award as the best smartphone showcased at the annual event this year.

Obviously video geeks, they pointed out that the HTC One X is the world’s first mobile handset to deliver simultaneous 1,080P HD video capture while also capturing snapshots. And those still images are wide screen, 3,264 x 1,840 pixels, and do not affect the video recording in any way. The handset also allows you to snag 1,920 x 1,080 still shots from previously recorded video as well. Instant Image Capture mode delivers a snapshot in 0.7 seconds, and the F/2.0 lens receives 40% more light than the F2.4 lens found on most smartphones.

So for the closet shutterbug, the camera capabilities are award winning, but the HTC One X handset is desirable in other ways as well. Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) v4.0 operating system is present out-of-the-box, as is the HTC Sense v4.0 UI. The 312 pixels per inch mean an overall screen resolution on the large 4.7 inch screen of 720 x 1,280 pixels, and the Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen delivers visuals in over 16 million colors, with a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass protecting the display.

Powering the HTC One X 4G smartphone is a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip suite, including a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU and graphics dedicated Adreno 225 chip. 16 GB of user accessible storage is built into the handset, and 1.0 GB of RAM memory is also present. The 2,000 mA battery provides 7.5 hours of talk time from a single charge.

The full range Beats Audio sound system is on board in the multimedia package, as are a YouTube video player and built-in music player. The HTC One X 4G also offers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out of the box, providing wireless payment processing and data sharing options. The handset is exclusive to the AT&T 4G LTE network, and retails starting at $119 on contract at select retailers.
