If you happen to have AT&T for your wireless provider of choice and are in the market for a new handset that packs all the bells and whistles that you could want in a smartphone, the list could be very long. However, if you want the best handset that money can buy, the HTC One X 4G should be on top of your short list.
The HTC One X 4G was previously known as the HTC Edge back in the day when the handset’s existence was made known through leaks and rumors. At that time, the handset had the distinction of being the first handset in the world to be powered by a quad-core processor under the hood. In fact, during the time that other manufacturers are still contemplating the viability of quad-core powered smartphones, Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacturer HTC was already making it a reality with what we knew back then as the HTC Edge.
The handset went through a couple of name changes before it was finally announced as the HTC One X at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain back in February. At that time, AT&T also added the handset to its stable of Android-powered devices and christened it the HTC One X 4G. It had one glaring difference from its international sibling though – AT&T’s version of the handset did not have a quad-core processor because the NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset found in the original version of the HTC One X did not have native support for the LTE network of the wireless provider.
The HTC One X 4G from AT&T only packs a dual-core processor under the hood and if you think this is severely underpowered compared to the quad-core version of the device, you are dead wrong. In fact, the two handsets went head-to-head in a series of benchmark tests and the AT&T HTC One X 4G ended up getting better scores compared to its international quad-core powered sibling despite having only two cores under the hood.
And with the HTC One X 4G in the palm of your hands as your mobile weapon of choice, you also get to take advantage of the ever-expanding LTE network of AT&T. With this in play, you get to have ultra-fast mobile internet speeds that are said to be ten times faster than the conventional 3G connectivity. And as mentioned earlier, the HTC One X 4G has a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset under the hood that brings dual-core capabilities to the handset through its dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor. Supporting the processor in delivering the computing power needed by the handset is a full gigabyte of RAM while the storage needs of a user is handled by the handset’s 16Gb of onboard memory.
Display-wise, the HTC One X 4G comes with a massive 4.7-inch SuperIPS LCD2 panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department is just as impressive and will let you leave the point and shoot at home since the device has a rear-facing 8MP shooter capable of capturing 1080p clips and a front-facing 1.3MP camera out front for video calls and self-portraits. You can buy the HTC One X 4G starting at $119 at select retailers.
