It was not long after Google announced the Android 4.4 KitKat update that HTC confirmed that HTC One 4G owners in the United States would definitely be getting that Android operating system update. The announcement from HTC stated that Android 4.4 would be rolling out to the US HTC One handset owners “within 90 days” without mentioning a specific launch date. That is because once that operating system update is sent to different wireless carriers offering the HTC One, it is up to the carrier to decide when to launch.
The HTC One 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $19$0.01 – $539.99.
However, a recent follow-up announcement shows that the smartphone manufacturer plans on beginning the Android 4.4 KitKat update in January in the United Kingdom, and moving onto the US immediately after. This would fall squarely within the 90 day mandate which HTC America president Jason Mackenzie promised North American handset owners his company would adhere to for delivery of the operating system update.
Google has already debuted the Nexus 5, rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update with it. And while the software accompanying Android 4.4 is not a huge overhaul to the Google mobile operating system, it is an update which will provide much-anticipated functionality and new features. Ever since the HTC One debuted in April of this year, the handset has been one of the top two or three bestsellers in the United States.
In late 2012 the hardware package and specifications of the HTC One handset were announced, immediately leading some analysts to remark that this possibly could be the most powerful Android smartphone ever developed. Unlike most handsets, both front and rear cameras can record video in 1,080P Full HD resolution, and the 4.70 inch touchscreen delivers an industry high pixel density of 468 pixels per inch. The Full HD screen is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2, and 16.5 hours of talk time can be achieved from a single battery charge.
The powerful quad core CPU runs 1.7 GHz, 32 GB of built-in storage are present, as is 2.0 GB of RAM system memory. The HTC One also benefits from a powerful Adreno 320 graphics processor, and Google has chipped in with free Google Drive virtual storage space. Video is recorded in stereo sound, and the handset also offers a stereo FM radio with RDS display capabilities. The front of the phone has dual stereo speakers, and HTC has included its exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement package.
The HTC One 4G can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $0.01 – $539.99.
