When a smartphone manufacturer spends approximately $35 million buying a controlling interest in a particular technology, you can pretty much expect that same technology to start appearing on that company’s mobile handsets. That is exactly the case with smartphone manufacturer HTC, and their HTC Rezound 4G Android smartphone. That handset is exclusive to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system, and retails for around $99 with a standard new two-year activation and data plan. And soon after HTC spent the above mentioned amount of money buying a majority interest in the Beats by Dr. Dre audio entity, they released the Rezound as the first US handset to deliver the full range Beats Audio sound experience.

The handset also ships with a special set of Beats Audio ear buds that come in red and black colors to match the handset’s chassis and display. Those ear buds come equipped with a built-in in-line speaker and remote control, allowing for hands-free calls to be placed, and rewind, fast-forward and volume adjustment of the music player during voice calls. Far from just a music enhanced experience, the HTC Rezound 4G also delivers a high resolution display, a fast dual core processor and high-resolution video capture.

Arriving in the typical candy bar form factor as a flat, rectangular slab, the HTC Rezound offers a display of 4.30 inches, with a pixel density at the extreme high end of the smartphone marketplace at 342 pixels per inch. That endows the handset with an overall display resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels on the S–LCD screen, and more than 16 million unique colors are used to render visuals. The built-in light sensor automatically adjusts for the proper amount of brightness, and a built-in proximity sensor helps conserve battery life by shutting off the display when the handset is raised to answer a voice call.

Powering the handset is a Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon microchip package which includes a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion central processor, and an Adreno 220 GPU chip is also on board, and handles all graphics processing. The HTC Rezound delivers 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of built-in, user accessible storage, with a microSD slot built-in for storage expansion.

The camera combo on the handset includes a high resolution, rear mounted 8.0 megapixel camcorder which provides video capture at 1,080P HD and 30 frames per second. That camcorder comes equipped with a dual LED flash, and includes autofocus, white balance, ISO control, Geo tagging and special effects features. A 2.0 megapixel chat cam is up front, the HTC Rezound comes pre-installed with a proprietary YouTube video player and on board music player, and the above-mentioned full range Beats Audio system is also present.  The HTC Rezound is available starting at $99.
