Earlier this year smartphone manufacturer HTC spent $300 million in purchasing a controlling interest in the Beats by Dr. Dre audio company. They recently decided to attempt a return on that investment, including the Beats audio application in their HTC Rezound handset, the first US handset to contain that Beats audio software. The HTC Rezound also comes with an accompanying set of black and red Beats ear buds that accent the coloring and LED light display on the handset. Those Beats ear buds come equipped with an in-line mic for hands-free call placement, and a remote located on the ear buds cable allows for pausing, rewinding and advancing music tracks, even in the middle of a phone call.

With the HTC Rezound dropping to a fantastic $199 for new customers with new two year contract, this is a must see phone that has quick shutter action, incredible display and Beats audio.

While the entire advertising focus for the HTC Rezound has centered around this much-anticipated Beats audio smartphone software, the hardware on board makes the Rezound one of the most powerful handsets in the 4G marketplace. The Rezound arrives on Verizon’s 4G LTE network as the eighth smartphone on that platform, and retails for $199 with a new two-year activation and data plan.

With the release of the long awaited Samsung Galaxy Nexus at only $149 finally making a showing, many customers who have had a chance to look at the Rezound are now thinking twice about which device is best for them.

The HTC Rezound is average in size when compared to all other 4G smartphones, and employs a popular display size for today’s 4G handsets, at 4.3 inches. That S-LCD display is a capacitive multitouch screen, and offers 720 x 1280 pixel resolution. The Rezound comes packaged with Android’s 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, and is shortlisted as one of the few handsets to receive the Google 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS in a free over the air operating system upgrade in early 2012.

The processor on board the HTC Rezound 4G is a dual core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 chip, and is accompanied by a Qualcomm Adreno 220 graphics processor, 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB built in storage are also present in the hardware package. A microSD slot is built in and provides for storage expansion, and a microUSB slot is available to charge the device.

Buy the HTC Rezound for as little as $199 for new customers and $219 for existing Verizon upgrades. That is way below the $299 in store price currently being offered.

An 8.0 megapixel camcorder provides video capture at 1080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second, and is mounted on the back of the handset. The front of the HTC Rezound comes equipped with a 2.0 megapixel chat cam which also can be used for video calls.

I too have been waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to come out but in the mean time have really grown to like what the Rezound has to offer. I will let you know which of the two I pick up on Monday.

  1. I purchased the HTC Rezound over the new Nexus. Reason? Performance. Because the Rezound will also have ICS too I dhecided to go with the better hardware now. By the time the official ICS is issued fior the Rezound, developers will likely have a custom ROM ready that can also provide a “vanilla” experience.

  2. Loved the article. Love the Rezound as well and chose it over the Nexus for the same reasons you did. Congratulations!
