There is no doubt that Windows based smartphones are surely going to make a mark in the future. Several phone vendors have already begun branding the Operating System as the best on yet. In fact HTC seemed extremely bullish about the prospects that Windows operating system has to offer. The company’s president of Sales and Marketing (Global) announced that company is “going big” with windows phones. These comments were made right after Nokia launched two new Windows phones, the Lumia 820 and the Lumia 920. Mackenzie also added that HTC will make its own product announcements on the 19th of September, adding that these phones surely be superior in design.
He also added that Windows phones haven’t been exciting from the Hardware perspective. However, things are expected to change with the arrival of Windows 8. The attention Android is getting isn’t surprising given that it accounts for a sizeable majority of the smartphone market share. After Samsung’s loss to Apple in a lawsuit that saw the former lose $1 billion, it is clear that the competition is all set to reach new highs. Samsung’s losing to Apple is bound to weaken Android’s share in the smartphone market. This is an opportunity for emerging platforms like the Windows phone, to secure a place among the lead players in the smartphone market. Hence phone vendors like HTC aren’t wasting in pouncing onto this opportunity.
In fact there are more reasons than one for HTC’s increased interest in the Windows platform. HTC, which was once produced competitive and well-received smartphones, has seen a major drop in sales margins recently. Mackenzie asserted that the company is still making profits and will soon bounce back courtesy of an array of quality smartphones like the HTC One, the EVO 4G LTE and many others. Many analysts still believe that HTC, with attitude is capable of giving Apple and Samsung a run for their money. HTC need to come up with a shrewd strategy that ensures that use of funds is optimized to the company’s needs and not succumb to the spending prowess of Apple and Samsung. In the event that happens, HTC could forget about bouncing back to regain its lost share in the market. The company needs to take the positives from their devices and learn from the negatives that brought their numbers down. The company must adapt to change and with a little optimism we could surely see the emergence of a third competitive player in the smartphone market.
