htcwp8xThe HTC Windows Phone 8X smartphone hit the AT&T 4G HSPA+ network in the United States in early November of last year. That handset is currently retailing for $0.01 on contract with AT&T at Amazon, and is bargain bin priced for Verizon as well. The Verizon variant retails for just $49 on contract, which means that smartphone shoppers looking for an Android and iOS alternative now have a high-performance phone available at an entry-level price.

The HTC Windows Phone 8X is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.

The Windows Phone 8X is offered in unique color options like yellow, red and cyan, and delivers HTC’s Beats Audio sound enhancement. HTC says that the unique audio amplifier which powers the 3.5 mm audio jack and speaker “boosts the audio signal for even better sound.” The Beats sound amplification works whether you are playing a game, watching a video or movie, or listening to music. The handset measures 0.40 inches (10.1 millimeters) in thickness, and weighs just 4.59 ounces (130 g). The lightweight phone nonetheless delivers a large 4.30 inch display, with True HD 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution.

The extremely clear and resolute screen is a Super LCD 2 model, delivering over 16 million colors at the rate of 342 pixels per inch. A scratch resistant layer of second generation Gorilla Glass protects the screen, and the built-in light and proximity sensors help enhance power conservation. This aids the 1,800 mA cell on the HTC Windows Phone 8X in delivering up to 11.3 hours of talk time from a single charge on the AT&T network (15.0 hours for Verizon).

The handset’s hardware package includes 16 GB of pre-installed storage space, and 1.0 GB of RAM memory. Graphics are handled by an Adreno 225 GPU, and the main processor is a dual core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU. The system chip powering the phone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 model. The HTC Windows Phone 8X is unique in that it extends ultra-wide video and image capture to not only its rear facing camcorder, but also to the front facing chat cam. The 88 degree front camera functionality captures nearly triple the area of most other front facing smartphone cameras.

The rear shooter is an 8.0 megapixel model, with a dedicated shutter key and HTC’s exclusive ImageSense technology. This proprietary ISP delivers some photo trickery, ultra fast capture times and a continuous shot mode. That rear snapper also benefits from an f/2.0 aperture, allowing up to four people to be captured at once. Video is captured at 1,080P HD resolution, and the front facing chat cam runs 2.0 megapixels. Popular online applications Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Picasa have been pre-installed.

You can purchase the HTC Windows Phone 8X at a discounted price tag now starting at $0.01.
