If you happen to have T-Mobile for your wireless provider of choice and are still rocking a T-Mobile Springboard 4G released by the carrier back in December of last year, it would excite you to know that the Magenta carrier is slated to start the rollout of the upgrade that will give the Springboard a tasty treat of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich today. With this move, T-Mobile has just continued its ICS update streak with the ICS rollout for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus starting yesterday.
As for the T-Mobile Springboard 4G, it hit the shelves of T-Mobile back in December of last year as mentioned earlier with Android 3.2 Honeycomb for its default operating system. This simply means that users of the tablet have been waiting for that elusive Ice Cream Sandwich update for their T-Mobile Springboard 4G for quite some time now. At least, with this confirmation coming from the carrier, the months of waiting have finally come to an end.
The only difference that this update has from the ICS update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is its delivery system. The Samsung tablet will get its ICS fix via Samsung Kies while the T-Mobile Springboard 4G will have the usual way of expecting the ICS update via OTA so users of the tablet only have to wait for the notification on their respective devices and can proceed to downloading and installing ICS once it becomes available. But if you happen to have lost patience during the course of waiting for the update (which is just normal, by the way), you can also manually check for the ICS update by heading over to Settings > About tablet > Software updates and hit that button to get the update process rolling.
As for the T-Mobile Springboard 4G, it is your usual Android tablet with a design aesthetic that makes it look like solid black brick. It has dimensions of 190 x 129 x 10.4 mm and is a bit hefty at its catch weight of 607.8 grams. At least, the T-Mobile Springboard 4G boasts of an exceptional build quality and is comfortable to hold even for extended periods despite its heft.
Under the hood, the T-Mobile Springboard 4G packs fire-breathing components that is just impressive. It has a QualComm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset in its internals to power its operation. This SoC gives the tablet dual-core capabilities with a dual-core Scorpion processor clocked at 1.2 GHz working in conjunction with a full gigabyte of RAM to ensure that its operation is snappy and buttery-smooth. The storage space of the T-Mobile Springboard 4G comes up to 16GB but this is still expandable with the use of the tablet’s dedicated microSD card slot for memory expansion. Its display on the other hand is a 7.0-inch TFT capacitive multitouch panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels while its camera department includes a rear 5MP camera capable of recording 720p clips and a front-facing 1.3MP snapper.
