If you happen to live north of the border in Canadian territories and have Bell Canada for your wireless provider of choice with a massive Samsung Galaxy Note in the front pocket of your denims, then the following bit of news will truly delight and please you. As early as December, Bell Canada has already given us updates regarding the Ice Cream Sandwich update schedule for the devices in its lineup but these updates were rather vague for that matter. Everything changes today as a leaked internal document from the wireless provider itself surfaced and outlines the schedule as to when Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to be pushed out to the ICS-capable handsets in the stable of Bell Canada. Specific dates were not mention in the leaked document but the schedules are a lot less vague that what we have gotten in the past so this is actually even better.

With regard to the Bell version of the massive phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note released by the wireless provider is expected to get its first tasty treat of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich this April 2012, which coincidentally is just a couple of days away. Sad to say, as mentioned earlier, the specific date as to when ICS will get pushed out to the Samsung Galaxy Note was not mentioned but at least, users of the Bell Samsung Galaxy Note either has to wait for a couple of days or worse, a month at the most and their phablets will already be upgraded to the latest version of the Android mobile operating system.

Once Ice Cream Sandwich finally lands on the phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note will get all the goodies associated with ICS such as Face Unlock, Android Beam, and People app in addition to improvements to the usability of the device such as improved usability, enhanced cloud-based connectivity, and upgrades to the voice tools of the Samsung Galaxy Note. The phablet, a cross between a smartphone and a tablet, may be a niche device at the moment but the Samsung Galaxy Note is still very capable for that matter. The original version of the phablet was announced in September but only managed to hit the shelves a month later. Due to its massive screen, it follows that the chassis of the Samsung Galaxy Note is massive as well. In fact, the frame of the phablet measures 146.9 x 83 x 9.7 mm and it weighs in at a hefty 178 grams.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Note is designed for speed with its Exynos chipset in an SoC configuration that brings a dual-core 1.4 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, a dedicated Mali-400MP GPU and a full gigabyte of RAM for a stutter-free performance. It comes with an expandable 16GB of internal memory while its display, measuring 5.3 inches diagonally, is of the SuperAMOLED variant with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. An impressive camera department rounds up the feature set of the phablet with a very capable 8-megapixel camera at its back panel joined by a 2-megapixel webcam out front.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note starting at $249, a $50 savings over AT&T’s price tag.

Another variant of the Galaxy Note capable of LTE connectivity was released exclusively in the United States and Canada. The variant was first released on AT&T on 19 February 2012 in the US , while being simultaneously released on Telus, Bell, and Rogers on 14 February 2012 in Canada.[23] Although commonly referred to as the Galaxy Note LTE, the official model number is SGH-I717, differentiating it from the original N7000 and the Korea-exclusive LTE variant. In addition to the addition of LTE connectivity, Samsung made several modifications to the phone. Externally, the physical “home” button and the two touch-sensitive buttons on the front of the phone were replaced by four touch-sensitive buttons. Internally, the chipset was changed to the Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon, featuring a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion CPU and an Adreno 220 GPU. Support for FM radio was removed. All other phone specifications remained identical to the original N7000.
