As of the moment, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which was recently unveiled at Google I/O. This early, Google developer devices such as the Google Nexus 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus along with the Motorola Xoom Wi-Fi in the tablet realm have all gotten their respective treat of Jelly Bean. This was followed by announcements from manufacturers such as HTC, ASUS and Samsung about their Jelly Bean plans for the smartphones and tablets in their respective stables.
This is a good sign because as early as now, manufacturers have already allocated time to develop Jelly Bean for the high-end handsets in their lineups. However, what’s sad to see is that several very capable devices such as the HTC Rezound 4G are still waiting to get updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the dismay of their users. What’s even worse is that some capable handsets will no longer get the Android 4.0 refresh and stay stuck in the Gingerbread generation.
Such is the case of the LG Optimus 2X, the world’s first ever smartphone to come with a dual-processor under the hood. LG to begin with is a manufacturer known to be rather late in releasing updates for the handsets in its stable but leaving a relatively capable handset such as the LG Optimus 2X running Gingerbread while other less-capable devices are already enjoying Ice Cream Sandwich is really unthinkable.
Looking back, at the time Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was announced late last year, there was no certainty if the LG Optimus 2X will actually get upgraded to what back then was the latest Android version. LG for its part came out and confirmed that the handset will ultimately get a tasty treat of ICS and even projected a Q2 rollout of the update. That, as we all know now, did not happen but a post in the official FaceBook page of the manufacturer intimated that the ICS update for the LG Optimus 2X can be expected to land in Q3.
Sad to say, this is not to be because we just confirmed that the LG Optimus 2X will share the same fate as the HTC Desire HD and will also no longer get the upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The Twitter account of Canada was the source of the confirmation and put the final nails in the ICS coffin of the handset. The tweet was actually a response to a question and we quote “the Optimus 2X will not be receiving the ICS upgrade.” The tweet further explained that the original announcement of the planned upgrade was just a general statement from the manufacturer’s headquarters.
Putting our two cents’ worth, LG should have come out in the past to let users of the handset know that ICS is not hitting the LG Optimus 2X instead of teasing the same users and make them wait for something that in reality is not forthcoming.

Their moto “Life’s Good” is also ‘”just a general statement”!
I’m one of the abandoned customers who regretfully purchased the LG Optimus 2X. And yes I’m extremely disappointed. This was their flagship just a year ago. But that’s old technology now, their money is made with that, why bother?
How about keeping customers? Now I have a grudge against them. I think the only people interested in this article is people like me who’s been lured into new technology prowess (first dual core phone to hit the market) to then be left aside like a spoiled tissue.
I invite all other affected LG ex-customers to share their story of dissatisfaction, but not here, where new customers won’t see : on articles related to new LG phones, to inform future buyers what to expect. With Google upgrading more than once a year, not updating your phones is unforgivable.
