When talking about the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, it has been a way of life for the refresh to get delayed in hitting certain handsets. These delays in themselves are already disappointing but what could be more disappointing if the rollout of the update gets delayed for a flagship handset. This seems to be the case for the Sony Xperia S which, up until now, is yet to get upgraded to the latest version of the Android operating system despite its flagship status.

Looking back, Sony initially announced at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona back in February that the Android 4.0 refresh can be expected to hit the Sony Xperia S sometime in April. Sad to say, April has come and gone and we didn’t hear of any update getting rolled out for the handset, ICS or otherwise. The manufacturer reached out to users of the handset and has announced last week that the Sony Xperia S will finally get the Ice Cream Sandwich update either in late May or the early parts of June. The manufacturer even went so far that rumors of a June or a July rollout is just pure speculation and the rollout will be done in a gradual way wherein some phones might get lucky to get the update in late May while others will still have to wait until the middle of June.

Sad to say, the previous announcement was done in error and things got mixed up somewhere, somehow. It turns out that the previous delays in getting the Sony Xperia S upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich are not the last that we will be seeing because another delay will have to be experienced by users of the handset. As such, the manufacturer is yet again taking to the airwaves and has taken back the previous announcement it made last week and now confirming that the eagerly-awaited ICS update for the Sony Xperia S will again be delayed but will arrive during the latter part of Q2. Setting aside all disappointments, users of the Sony Xperia S only have five weeks or so and their handsets will already get a taste of the eagerly-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

As for those not familiar with the handset, we have the specs sheet of the Sony Xperia S coming right up to give you an idea of what the handset is capable of.

The circuitry of the Sony Xperia S is built around a QualComm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset which brings a dual-core Scorpion processor running at 1.5 GHz and 1GB of RAM to the handset. It also comes with a dedicated Adreno 220 GPU under the hood to take care of messy graphical situations. The internal storage of the handset comes up to 32GB while its display measures 4.3 inches diagonally and is of the LED-backlit LCD variety with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The camera department of the Sony Xperia S is equally just as impressive with a 12MP shooter at its back panel and a 1.3MP video chat camera out front.
