When it came to releasing the ICS update for the handsets in its stable, Sony surprisingly took an altogether different approach. Whereas other manufacturers are into the habit of giving the high-end devices in their respective lineups first dibs on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, Sony on the other hand included the midrangers in its stable in its ICS update plans. When you come to think of it, midrange Sony devices such as the Xperia Mini Pro and the Xperia Active already got a taste of the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system while the Sony Xperia S, its current flagship device, is still waiting to get the Android 4.0 refresh.

Back in the day, Sony announced that the Sony Xperia S will get upgraded to ICS this Q2 and the manufacturer was able to keep its promise with just a couple of days to spare when it finally rolled out the ICS update for the handset last week, last June 21 to be exact. Sad to say, the rollout was not as smooth as expected by users of the handset. These same users have all reported about the difficulties they encountered during the update process.

Before the update was released, Sony confirmed that those Sony Xperia S handsets that have their SI numbers listed in the official support site of the manufacturer will surely get the Android 4.0 refresh. Sad to say, even users of handsets whose SI numbers are already appearing in Sony’s support site failed to give their smartphones a taste of ICS. For its part, Sony confirmed that it already managed to isolate the issues on the Sony Xperia S ICs update and is already working on a fix to get it resolved.

More recently, Sony again made an announcement saying that a solution is now at hand and is already being implemented. In addition to that, the manufacturer confirmed that the ICS update will be re-released and the rollout will start on June 27. The rollout will be gradual though and Sony advises the users of the Sony Xperia S to run the update again and check if it is already available. The manufacturer also confirmed that it will make an announcement once all ICS updates for the Sony Xperia S have been re-released.

As for the Sony Xperia S, its circuitry revolves around a QualComm MSM8260 SnapDragon chipset which basically gives the smartphone a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and 1GB of RAM. The storage space of the handset comes up to a very generous 32GB of internal memory but sad to say, there is no option to get this beefed up since the Sony Xperia S doesn’t have a dedicated memory expansion slot. In terms of its display, the smartphone packs a Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine-powered LED-backlit LCD panel that has a diagonal of 4.3 inches and a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The camera department of the handset is just as impressive with its rear-facing 12MP shooter and front-facing 1.3MP video call and self-portrait camera.
