Apple keeps everything about new products under wrap for the most part and if anything ever leaks onto the internet, the company refuses to comment on the matter. Ever since the iPad 4 launched last year, the mobile world has been speculating about what they think the iPad 5 will bring to consumers. This week, a new set of photos leaked onto the internet that reportedly show the overall size of the newest tablet in the iPad family. For the most part, any of the rumors heard regarding the iPad 5 had to do with a new design.
The iPad 5 is reportedly going to be even thinner than the current iPad 4. The overall design, based on the images that were posted online, shows what appears to be a thinner and narrower iPad 5 design. Even though the images only show the back plate, much of the size can be determined from that and from previous models of the iPad. The small amount of information that ends up posted online is usually from the Apple supply chain and therefore can be given a little more traction without an announcement from Apple.
Some are expecting to see an iPad 5 that is up to 15 percent thinner and more than 25 percent lighter than the iPad 4. The leaked images come with measurements right on them so there is no mistaking the actual size of the device. The measurements on the images claim that it will be 240mm x 168mm in size. The overall height is about the same as the iPad 4, but a little more than 17mm less on the width, which equals a 10 percent reduction in overall width of the tablet. The majority of that reduction is due to the smaller bezels on the front side of the iPad 5.
Because the iPad Mini shares a similar design, technology that was used in that device to keep from having “accidental touches” on the display would have to be installed on the iPad 5 as well. The overall size of the bezel is just 3mm and that is because of the new technology that Apple switched to for the touch screen displays, which allow for more room around them. The speaker placement for the iPad 5 looks familiar as well and that would be because it is the same placement seen on the iPad Mini.
